so i just have my mom and she refuses to listen to me when i TRY to explain my symptoms, she says “you don’t have anything just rest harder” or “who are you trying to copy this from” or “where did you get that behavior from” and being honest it hurts and it’s also a struggle because she doesn’t let me get medication.

what should i do?

Hi there, I'm sorry to hear that. What type of ADHD do you have? I have Inattentive ADHD myself, which is a lesser known subtype of ADHD. I have an ADHD video series on Youtube where I talk about ADHD symptoms, the neurotransmitters we have difficulty with, supplement plans, medication, the struggles of the different subtypes of ADHD etc. Some people have mentioned to me that sharing some of these videos with their friends and or family members who were skeptical, has helped them see that ADHD is a real condition that entails a major difference in the way our brain neurochemistry functions compared to people who do not have ADHD. There's also a lot wonderful and inspiring individuals who have shared their ADHD testimony on youtube, where they talk about how getting treatment helped them reach their full potential and turn their life around for the better. I myself am a testimony to that. I got diagnosed in my mid 20s and am now completing grad school in order to become a therapist to work specifically with the ADHD community. There's hope. The link to my youtube videos is on my profile bio incase you're interested. Hope this helps.

I think what 2020 has taught me the most is it's hard for someone to relate to let alone understand the things someone else goes through because they're having a hard time dealing with their own feelings. I've decided that I'm just having conversations with others about what it is they're going through in hopes that they will hear themselves say what it is they are going through and pray empathy and connection comes about somewhere. It's not a great way but it's the only way I've figured out for me. So far.

youtube.com/watch?v=cx13a2-... Here's Another YouTube channel that may help. Eclectricentric77 has done an amazing amount of work to document what he's done to help with ADHD (including supplements that help) while utilizing the benefits of it. I encourage you to check out his work! Good luck and keep us updated. Many people are mis-informed about what ADHD really is.

Get the book Women with Attention Deficit disorder, as a mother with a daughter who kept insisting she had it too, I realized we BOTH had it after reading this book! I immediately got us both diagnosed and helped and I will forever feel terrible that I didn’t help her sooner. Women and Girls often display it differently and moms in my generation often don’t understand that .

I, too, use the YouTube (the ones mentioned above are great!!) They are a great way to gain confidence and normalcy. But at the end of the day, you have to be true to your self. Your family will see that this is not just a phase, or hip, or (crap...did I just age myself?). Anyway, good luck....looks like you have some very good advice and support from the group here.

Keep posting and good luck,

Renee

The thing that helped my family was hearing other people talking about their struggles with ADD. The YouTube videos might be a good choice.
