Evening struggles

Hi guys!

I'm 22 years old and a year ago diagnosed with ADHD. Since then i started taking Concerta and now stable on a 36mg dose. It really helps me during the day, but in the evening when the meds are out of my system I really feel restles. Racing thoughts and i can't decide what to do. I also have a history with overeating, it calms me and releases me of the overamount of thoughts. But I really don't want to do that anymore. So I was wondering if any of you guys maybe have some tips for me to calm a little bit down in the evening. And if there maybe is an other treatment option that could benefit for me?

Thank you very much in advance for reading.

Hi. I am actually the same age and on the same med and dose. I was diagnosed about 15 years ago though. I have a similar problem but I become more hyperactive in the evenings and have a hard time settling down. I actually use an extra quick release small dose med in the evenings when I need to actually focus and you may find that to be what you need. I also use a weighted lap pad to help calm and ground me. It helps me refocus (I also have anxiety so it helps with the agitation that comes along with that).

It could also help to just create an evening routine. That way you don’t really have to decided to do anything you just follow the routine.

I already have tried using Ritalin in the evening, but it didn't go well with alcohol and it made me feel very down afterwards. But I'm gonna try to make a better evening routine and that weighted lap pad also sounds very nice. Thanks for the respons and the tips!

Of course! Feel free to reach out if you need someone the same age to talk to :)

My therapist prescribed a smaller dose (18 mg) to be taken about 6 hours later. This helps me immensely in the evenings.

Thanks! That sounds very nice, i'm gonna ask my therapist if that is possible for me as well.
