hey y’all! I’ve been on vyvanse 30 mg for about two weeks now and it’s working great. do you guys know a timeframe of when y’all nausea went away? Im eating maybe once a day but I’m so nauseous. Also extremely thirsty, I drink atleast a gallon of water each day. I just started having chest pains and i did schedule and appointment with my cardiologist. Did any of y’all experience chest pain?

The chest pains are a major concern. I hope that you have let your regular doctor know.

I haven't taken Vyvanse, so I don't have any experience with it. The only stimulant that I took was Adderall XR. It did decrease my appetite, but only a little bit. However, I've heard that loss of appetite is one of the more common side effects to stimulant medication.

I know the Vyvanse is formulated differently from most stimulants...it requires ingestion to be converted into it's usable state. (This makes it must harder to abuse, compared to other stimulants.)

The nausea might be a side effect of the medication, or it might be your body's reaction to a change in eating habits.

I have to take most medications with food, and I'm prone to feeling nausea or even stomach pain if I don't take with food. But then again, I tend to be a "lightweight" anyway, usually only needing the lowest dose of any given medication.

If the nausea is a reaction to skipping meals, then eating small meals (even if you don't feel hungry), instead of skipping meals, might reduce or eliminate the nausea.

* I was married before, and my wife had really bad nausea (morning sickness) for each pregnancy. She learned to graze on small snacks throughout the day, to reduce the nausea. I don't know if the same would help you, since this is a very different situation, but I thought I'd pass it along.

I've found warnings for Vyvanse that say "call your doctor right away if you are experiencing chest pains".

Vyvanse can increase blood pressure, which is why it carries the risk of cardiac issues. (Unfortunately, many ADHD medications have similar warnings, not just stimulant meds, but also the non-stimulant atomoxetine that I am on.)

If the chest pains are due to high blood pressure, then talk to your doctor about Guanfacine (known by the brand name Intuniv), which is a medication to treat high blood pressure which has also been used to treat ADHD.

Your doctor might consider changing your medication or lowering your dosage, adding Guanfacine, or various other options. There's hope.

I was in Adderall, originally, which gave my tachycardia when my dosage was increased. That's why my doctor switched me to atomoxetine (which I wanted to try anyway). But I know that atomoxetine doesn't work for everyone with ADHD. It makes me glad that there are more medication options than ever before.

I wish Strattera would have worked for me. I’m terrified that they will take me off of it because it’s helping me so much. I know I have chest pains from my anxiety but these feel much more intense. I scheduled an appointment just to get checked up.

I took Vyvanse for a long time and the nausea never went away... I was young and thought it was from drinking and eating habits for a long time but I think it was the meds more than anything else. I finally switched about a year ago back to quick release Adderall and it's so much better.

I would take chest pains as a huge concern. Have not experienced them but I would stop the stimulants immediately and see a doctor as soon as possible.

No chest pains or nausea for me, but a do avoid drinking any coffee after I take the stimulant (or right before it). Others suggest to be sure to eat a meal with protein. Maybe that would help prevent nausea?

Out of concern for being over 45 on a stimulant, my doctor recommended I take my blood pressure regularly at home. I don't typically have high blood pressure.

I bought an Omron 5 series upper-arm blood pressure monitor (the kind with the cuff), because it keeps a history and can export the data to their app for me to give the doctor if she wants it. The arm-cuff type is supposed to be more accurate. Just make sure you've been sitting for several minutes and put your feet flat on the floor as directed. (Seriously, crossing my legs gives me a high BP!).

do you have a BP cuff/know how to check heart rate? is your heart rate regular/irregular? Nausea can also be a cardiovascular symptom. Are your symptoms linked to activity? do you have cold fingers/toes?

You are drinking too many fluids, please slow down now!!!!! I use organic fruit based gummies to keep my mouth from drying out. I take Vyvanse. If I drank that much water I would have chest pains too. Keep your appt with your cardiologist. I have been taking stimulants for over 20 years and my heart has suffered, I now have congestive heart failure. So I keep track of my pulse and keep it down below 90--lower is better. I take heart medicine also because my heart has been over worked for a long time. Vyvanse is not so toxic like Adderall which kept my heart rate above 100+. Are you really that thirsty or is your mouth just dry making you assume your thirsty. You knew you were drinking too much by your letter, listen to your body, it was telling you to slow down the amount of water you were drinking. Our bodies are smart, if you listen to them. I am 70 and trusting what my body tells me has saved my life many times.

Please get seen at the ER & stop the Vyvanse. . You need to be evaluated, labs, an EKG, and possibly other tests. Don’t wait for an appointment. I’m a physician.
