Recommendation to get through emails faster

I’m 40, recently diagnosed with ADHD inattentive. I work as a manager and get a lot of email. I’ve always struggled w ith reading, and email specifically has always been a struggle. Seeing a lot of unread emails in my inbox I feel completely overwhelmed. I will pick one, get sidetracked and only deal with a fraction of the unread items.

I started using an app called Speaking Email on my commute. It reads out one email after the other back to back. You can archive and dictate short replies. This has helped me so much!!! Even though I still don’t reply to every email, at least I have read them.

Has anybody else found ways to deal with this problem? I feel the key is that it doesn’t feel overwhelming when you just are forced to deal with every email one at a time. It there was a similar program for PC, I would be very curious.

For me what works is to take the time one day to clean the inbox out, usually just by filing old e-mails even if I haven't read them. Then, once I have a clean inbox, I can start daily trying to keep up to date. I usually start from the bottom and work my way through in order. I find that it gives me a sense of accomplishment when I work through them methodically like that.

I'd also advise approaching e-mails like you would a college reading assignment. You don't have to read every word. Read enough to get the gist of what's going on, then move on. If it's not something you need to act on or not directly for you, file it. If it is something you need to act on, do it immediately before you open the next message.

It takes time to form a pattern and a habit. I'm now eight months into my new job and this has worked really well for me. It took me time to adapt, but staying on top of it each day helps. I check my e-mail multiple times throughout the day and leave every day with a clean inbox. That helps me. Not sure if any of that will work for you, but those are my thoughts. Good luck!

I don´t get to understand the reason why you talk about an app that gives so many advantages and you end the post saying " that there is a problem" ( in its essence that is the message that it can perceive) so...good: I am going to suppose that there is hidden problem with the harmonies within the voice you have chosen for that assistant. That would be -in case i were right with my suspicion- a proper intuition from you, as it happens that the human brain rejects certain sounds that can - seldom- be harmful for memory and some other "networks" within the key capabilities devoted to do the hard work of abstraction. Just In case it happened that to you, try to settle down Cortana, as it is a masculine voice, it could improve your "peace of mind" that could - in the end- helps you to answer those e-mails that don´t want to be read jejeje

Sorry I wasn’t clear. I was just talking about the problem of email overload. The app has helped me but I am curious about other things that have helped others.
