How wonderful it would be, if ALL Employers felt willing to work with you for reasonable accommodations. In my case, NOT. After being a salaried, conscientious employee for 3 years in this position, once I asked for RA, everything changed. They did everything in their power, to make me, and my job miserable so I would leave. They changed me, after 40 years of being a salaried employee in other jobs as well, they demoted me to an hourly employee, which made it hard for me to attend my psychiatrist AND therapy appointments. Lost time and money at work, to be able to do so. That is NOT a Reasonable Accommodation. Long story short. After a mentally debilitating year and a half, they "laid me off". I have now put in a formal Complaint to the Division of Human Rights as well as the EEOC. It is moving forward, they replied, then I sent in my Rebuttal. Now, waiting. So, don't be surprised, especially in a small office, that the tables will be turned on you, as they were me. Document Everything. I did.

Hello CKeane,

I am so sorry this has been your experience. This is not what should happen, but unfortunately, it does -- and it happens more than I think we realize.

Disclosing a need or ADHD or any other condition is a hard decision that needs to take the employee's specific work environment and supervisors into consideration. Most are interested in help. Others, unfortunately like your own, see it as a reason to push someone out of that employment.

Good luck with your EEOC case. Hopefully, there will be a positive end to this.

Best regards,

Karen
