my son is 13 years old and is struggling immensely in Math and language art. His writing is barely legible cause he writes so fast. We can slow him down. He is on focalin XR 20 min twice a day cause he eat thru the meds in 3 1/2 hr. I don't know what to do to get him the help he needs to slow down and a med that help him focus better. School doesn't know what to do either

Hello Juanita,
I hear your struggle - and his! Glad you reached out here.
What have you tried regarding any meditative and mindfulness practices? There are some resources on this site and others that could help.
While your school may not know what to do, there are ADHD coaches that could work with him and you to create academic patterns to help with school work.
Feel free to contact me direct if you need anything.
Does he enjoy art? I found that was able to slow me down when I had problems there, too. Doodling was great. my teachers were a little put off but I was at least able to keep my hands moving constantly so I could pay attention.
Is there any chance his school would allow him a device to type his answers? or perhaps give him alternative enrichment to be sure he understands the material?
Hi Juanita,
I hear your struggle with your son and his condition. I think Unfocused may be onto something. Does he have keen interest in some particular area that gives him peace or causes him to slow down and take pride in what he does? It could be art or writing or music or any number of things. Try tapping into his strengths and see how that goes. Blessings to you on your journey.
