My daughter was just recently diagnosed with ADHD combined type and absolutely hates math. She is currently in 3rd grade and is doing multiplication and division. She would benefit from practice at home but hates doing flashcards. I am looking for math games or apps that would help motivate her to practice math facts at home. Any suggestions would be helpful.

I bought Multiplication Facts that Stick by Kate Snow for upcoming practice at home, great reviews.
try playing scrabble. It’s a maths game!
Great suggestion, she actually likes to spell so that may be a winner. Thanks.
My younger son doesn’t have adhd but was way ahead in maths at school as he got hooked on scrabble age 6. He has competed in the world youth scrabble competition! Look around for a local club that plays on boards. Do not let them play scrabble on a device or the maths won’t improve as it does it for them.
try 1XL for computer they also have workbooks
Our kids both did MathTango on their iPads and found it very helpful, I think it was worth the money. It is K-5 so some of it will be too easy, but it has multiplication and division.
If you go on YouTube there are tons of songs for multiplication facts, all geared towards kids. Some of them are spin offs of pop songs so they’re pretty catchy. I figured if my son can memorize the lyrics to Taylor Swift songs, he should be able to memorize his times tables
My husband also invented a game for my son where you print off a multiplication table, then cross off anything greater than 6 facts. Then he would play bingo with my son where they each roll two dice and multiply to find an answer in that grid…first one to get a bingo wins.
You can do the same multiplication with playing cards.
Hi it's a program where the students take a test to determine their level. They work from a binder and have opportunities to play games and earn rewards. They can also do their Math homework there. They offer in-person and online. The in-person is like a small group. It' s very structured. My daughter loves the program. Last year she was failing Math. I also paid for the IXL Math program and she has IXL at school. I was trying to cover all my bases. I'm a Special Ed teacher, too. We did flashcards and written problems for years, as well as Math tutoring. It was her most difficult subject. She likes it a lot more now. We also tried executive function coaching but she isn't good at writing down her assignments yet. :)Hope this helps!
Thank you for all the help. I will try anything to make it a little easier for her. I am having difficulty finding an executive functioning coach near me in NJ.
You're very welcome! I'm happy to help. I'm trying to help my daughter as much as I can. It's been a tough road, but she's doing well in middle school. Her emotional dysregulation is challenging at home. I signed her up for Mightier, but can't get it to work. Lol I forgot to mention that I took the Impact Parents Sanity School Training. I've looked into online executive function coaching, such as Coachbit but haven't signed up yet.
I recommend getting a tutor or high school student to meet with her regularly. It will build structure and create discipline. It’s likely too much for her on her own.
When my daughter was in elementary school we did this and it was a game changer. It’s called “body doubling” and is necessary for a lot of kids with adhd (adults too)!
Our teacher recommended Hit the Button from topmarks.co.uk
yes mine too I have heard that is common to have math difficulty when ADHD We just started outside tutoring with Mathnesium learning centers It is an franchise so there may be a center in your area
I’m a special education teacher. Try education.com. They have worksheets and games. You may have to pay for the subscription, but it’s worth it. You can also try gimkit.com. Prodigy is good too.
Just curious.. could you speak to her teacher and see if the math she does online can be counted as some type of credit in school. It really helps to tie outside school work in school. Most schools have online programs that help children with math.
One of the mistakes we made was getting involved with private programs ( kumon., Huntington learning, etc) which forces a child to do additional work that is not classroom work.
We needed a math tutors all the way through high school.
Best of luck.
Not sure if you have had her tested for any lear ing issues. Could she have dysgraphia? Or other issues with learning math. If she had a 504 plans maybe tools to help could be written in. Sometimes when kids hate it could mean the task is to hard.
Just a thought.
We had her tested and all the academics cane back above average with an above average IQ so they ruled out learning disabilities. The doctor mentioned that kids with ADHD tend to struggle with transitions and working memory and math is full of transitions with rules changing often and switching of facts to be learned. She does well when there is a set rule that she can apply without always having to learn new information such as spelling. We are looking a 504 for some accommodations for math.
