Korean red ginseng

Mom-of-a-superhero profile image

Hi,

I have a 10 year old daughter with inattentive ADHD currently unmedicated. I came across a study that showed significant improvement in attention when kids with ADHD were given omega 3 and Korean red ginseng. This was a small study. My daughter already takes omega 3 but I am wondering if anyone has tried Korean red ginseng and what was your experience

Here is a link to the study if anyone is interested pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articl...

Thank you!

You could also look into rhodiola rosea and Hardys daily essential nutrients and Carlson elite dha fish oil. These really help my son

Thank you for your feedback. I have looked at Hardy's daily essential nutrients in the past and I will have to revisit that again. I would love to learn more about rhodiola rosea. Do you have a product or dosage you recommend?

My son is 21 and he takes a capsule a day of this one

nz.iherb.com/r/swanson-full...

As your daughter is a child I would err on the side of caution and get some clear gel caps and divide each capsule into say 4 to start with and try that for a few weeks, then go to 1/2 for a while if there is no difference. See if she is better or worse. A full capsule might be too strong for a child.

The Hardys my friends son was on from age 7 at 12 caps a day eithe clinical dose, and he still takes it now at age 18. He was on a clinical trial with Julia rucklidge a clinical psychologigist here in New Zealand. My 21 year old has been on 12 per day for 18 months now and is doing well.

I really appreciate you sharing your experience and taking the time to reply. It is so helpful for me hear positive experiences with Hardy's. When your son started Hardy's did you guys increase them gradually or did he take 12 from the start?

He started with 1x 3 for a few days and went up within a few weeks to the 12.

I also have my husband on them. He has Parkinson’s. I noticed a difference in his mood within a week. He has been taking them for 5 years now and was able to get off his antidepressant meds.

The rhodiola seems to also be a good addition as it seems to boosts motivation and help them both to be able to get on to stuff they need to do. It was like turning a lightbulb on for especially my husband.

For anyone reading this who are on meds it can make the meds unnecessary so they will need to be tapered off as you increase the Hardys dose or you can become over medicated.

If anyone is interested in rhodiola rosea. Here is a good paper I found pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articl....

we just started fish oil capsules for my daughter who couldn’t tolerate any of the adhd meds. Will have to research Korean ginseng. I couldn’t find anything about the authors doing a larger study.
