Hi,

need advice - my 5 yr old daughter is on Quillivant 15 mg during the day and guanfacine 1 mg at night- she is always in her own world and does not focus on writing, we have recently adjusted the medications and she has trouble focusing while I am reading a story book.

Is it normal for ADHD kids or is it medications affecting her or her mind is adjusting to these medication changes?

how do you get her focus on practicing the writing and reading if she is not interested at all.

thank you

Normal for my kids. Adderall helped. Sometimes she's right there and yet not there at all mentally.

Hello mvb29,This sounds pretty normal for a five year old. Her motor skills may lag those of her peers so writing could be a challenge. Give her time, she will catch up.

As best you can keep it fun and engaging and she will stay interested. Also, keep sessions short. A 5 year old's attention span is short with or without meds.

Find things she likes to learn about and she will stay engaged. Keeping her excited about learning is key, the rest - writing, stories, etc. - will catch up over time.
