MTHFR and ADHD behaviors link?

Hi everyone, my son is almost 9 and was diagnosed a few years back with ADHD, we’ve explored many many treatment options, diet, meds and therapies. We did a gene sight test last year to help with medication changes and noticed the MTHFR gene saying it was significantly reduced folic acid conversion. We started supplementing with meythalfolate, and went on as usual did the medication change, I can’t stop thinking about and researching that gene. So far all roads lead to the fact that if you have that in your body as my son does it’s linked to MANY COMMON ADHD behaviors, anxiety, depression, irrational moods, high reaction to stresses, sensory issues, (lots of behaviors and things related to things just not working properly in the brain due to this dna deficiency) very interesting stuff that I’m very curious to learn more about. We haven’t went down a road with a naturalist doctor to explore any type of treatments with that gene other then the methyl folate supplement. Wondering if anyone has went to a dr that specializes in treating or helping balance when there is a deficiency and if so have you had success or any information you could share with your experiences? Thanks much

Our psychiatrist recommended broad spectrum micronutrients. We use Hardy Nutritionals.

Yes, we do too. Also my husband uses it for Parkinson’s.

A good book to read is

Yes there is absolutely an important link there. Our psychiatrist noticed that same deficiency on my son‘s Genomind results and prescribed him a methylated B vitamin complex with zinc & iron called EnLyte. It was a game changer for us. It shifted my son’s baseline from irritable to happy & goofy.

if you’re interested in exploring the full suite of nutritional supports for ADHD, I recommend reading finally focused by Dr. James Greenblatt. Based on that book, my son also takes omega-3’s, magnesium and nutritional lithium.

Thank you so much for replying and the additional information I looked up that boo and have been reading more from him today after I first seen your response. I appreciate the information. Is your son solely taking the supplements or is he taking them alongside other meds? Our son takes supplements as well but also started guanfacine a few weeks ago, we are taking to his prescriber tomorrow about changing his meds again. In the process of looking up the book you mentioned I also seen there is a food allergy test from mosaic diagnostics we may try to get done as well, we know he is sensitive to artifact food coloring as well, so perhaps that will give us more insight. Sounds promising! Thanks again
