Hi, all! So excited to meet you… I honestly had no idea this type of support existed and I’m happy to have found you. We are seeking to get our son tested and I wanted to ask how you all gauge their progress once a treatment plan is established. Is this something the PCP monitors or will we be building a close relationship with a psychologist or psychiatrist to oversee his treatment. I’m lost.
Thanks to whoever takes the time to read and/ or reply. 🙏

Welcome! Before getting a diagnosis or starting any type of medication I found it helpful to keep a daily log in my notes section on my phone. Every day I would track what time she woke up, her behavior in the morning, what school reported back to me at pick up, what she ate any medications or vitamins given and I just tracked how her behavior was before medication was prescribed and after. So much happens during the day with our little one's it's so hard to remember every little thing. I found keeping detailed notes for a month really showed me what was affecting her behavior the most (Lack of sleep, not sticking to a routine)
You will probably also be referred to occupation therapy- Our occupational therapist does a really good job at keeping us updated on progress.
We just started a very small dose of a non stimulant just at bed time and our pediatrician wants to meet with us in a month.
Best of luck to you and your family, this forum is such a great tool for support and advice 😀
We use all of them, plus school is involved, and I think progress is noted everywhere. Most of the work is done through therapy sessions with the psychologist, who communicates with the psychiatrist after each visit. We had visits with both practitioners in place by the end of the battery of testing, as well as a meeting with school that led to a request for OT (which is still pending, some things take forever). GL, I hope this helps!
I think that it all depends on where you go. With my son, we started with the therapist in our pediatrician's office, then worked with the pediatrician, then transitioned to a behavioral health place with a child psychiatrist and therapist. With my daughter, since we already knew about the behavioral health place, we started right away there with a more formal assessment and a child psychiatrist and therapist. In terms of progress, as I think someone already said, you are kind of the nexus, trying to put your own feedback together with the mental health professionals and school. I think everyone ends up in the process differently, and progress is definitely in fits and starts and often goes backwards, then forwards. Then rinse and repeat. As I often joke to my wife, it's not like it is in "House," where there's a team on top of the case all the time, unfortunately. That team is you Hope that helps!
