Good Evening, My name is Kendra, I am the mother of a beautiful 9 year old girl, who was diagnosed with a basic learning disability, well about a 1 and a half a go I noticed some personality changes. Attention span is not well and I am also noticing sensory with specific clothing. So I joined this forum to see if I can find parent support groups who understand me. I hope to hear from you all.
Thank you.

As of right now a basic learning disability. But I have had her paper for testing her for ADHD since the summer and I am just now deciding to test her for ADHD, and this is a lot. And the sensory thing it is just a lot as well.
Hey, have you got ADHD diagnosis for your daughter? It does help to have assessment and knowing exactly why your daughter’s attention span is not good. For any sensory issues it’s good to get assessment from Occupational Therapist, they can also guide you what else they think your daughter may need.
I had just started all of her paper work for getting her tested for ADHD and the school is re evaluating her so I spoke with the women who is getting all of the teacher together to test her and they are going to get a occupational therapist in there to get her tested. And the funny thing about her occupational therapist is that she had it when she was in kindergarten and than in first grade they said she didn’t need it so they are going to see how to work that into her IEP.
I’ve found this forum to be really helpful and supportive. Great if you have specific questions or need to vent 😊 It sounds like you’re doing all the right things with the school. Someone just wrote in about sensory issues and shoes - there were some useful suggestions - maybe you could search for it?
Welcome! I’m so glad that you have found this group. It’s been a huge help for me as our family navigates ADHD/Autism. I really appreciate the perspectives and support from other families who have similar experiences. I know that it’s not just our family who is dealing with similar challenges!
Getting an official diagnosis for us was a game changer for school. We went from almost daily phone calls from the Vice-principal to daily support from the counselor and social training at school. We paid out-of-pocket for the diagnosis and then shared the diagnosis with the school. That made the process go more quickly.
It sounds like our children have opposite sensory issues-my son doesn’t register touch/sensations strongly, so he is very rough and breaks things/touches harder than others are comfortable with. We have been working with an OT to help him.
