Any oral contraceptive recommendation for teen daughter with ADHD ?

My teen daughter has had great success using Guanfacine to treat her ADHD symptoms, namely impulsivity and emotional regulation.

She recently started low-Ogestrel (brand name)birth control and it completely reversed the effectiveness of her adhd meds. The emotionally out of proportion outbursts returned as well as some impulsive behaviors. So after a week and a half, we decided to discontinue the birth control and the undesirable symptoms stopped.

My daughter wants to try another birth control brand and I am looking for any advice or recommendations anyone has to offer. Her pediatrician had no insights, other than just randomly try another brand. Her appointment with her psychiatrist isn’t for another month so it will be some time before we can get his input.

Does it have to be an oral contraceptive? personally, I found the Mirena IUD had less side effects because the hormones are released locally, but I'm almost 50 and haven't researched this stuff lately! IUD might not be appropriate for such a young age. Maybe something like Nuvaring would work better?? You’ll probably get the best advice from an OBGYN rather than a pediatrician.

I second the IUD comment. Imagine a teenager with ADHD having to take a pill the same time each day and if they don't it's not as effective. Good luck..

My teenage grandson's girlfriend, who also has depression problems, has an implant in her arm. Not sure of the brand but she is pretty stable right now.
