My 12 year old is about to switch from prozac to lexapro and I'm worried it wont help or it will potentially make things worse. He's also taking strattera. Doctor might start him on focalin in a few weeks. I'm so overwhelmed having my child on so many medications. He struggles with depression/adhd (inatentive). He's not able to follow through or keep up with school work and is very stressed out about being behind. Actually, I'm not sure if he's more stressed about being behind or people knowing he's behind because that makes him feel insecure about his abilities. He has a serious aversion to the word "help" and refuses to let us (parents) give him support or feed back. He's a great kid and very sweet when things are going well. When their not going well he's angry, verbally hurtful and withdrawn from the family. This momma could use all the support and kind words you have!

Hi. I don’t know if I can offer help, so much as support. I so know what you are going through. It is so tough not knowing what is right for your child. But I think you have to have faith in the doctors, and if they find the right combination of medicines it will really help. We were lucky with our 13 yo ADD son as the first medication he tried, Concerta, worked so well for him. We haven’t been as lucky with our 15 yo daughter who has depression/anxiety and possibly OCD. She struggles to do anything and attending virtual school classes and getting work done is practically impossible. Nothing has helped. They had to take her off Abilfy because the side effects (restlessness constant motion) made her worse. They just put her on Prozac this week and I’m praying it helps. Could you please tell me why your son’s doctor took him off Prozac? Hang in there and remind yourself you are doing the best you can.

When we made the switch it REALLY improved our kid's feelings/behavior.
