Please help before school meeting

Hello, I have a PPT meeting this Friday. Since my son has an adhd diagnosis, and his current ppt recommendation states “his behavior of record is NOT a manifestation of his disability “, should I push to change it in the official papers to “IS Manifestation of his disability?”

Isn’t that obvious that he acts the way he acts because of his adhd?

Thanks for any answers

I would asked for it to be changed if the stuff he is doing is because of his disability Because if there saying it isn't cause of his disability he can get in more trouble for it and it means they don't have to do accommodations to help with it There are certain behaviors that are not acceptable weather it is has to do with the child disability or not

That is exactly why I need it in writing. To protect him a little, and school doesn’t want to admit his behaviors come from disability. They act like he just misbehaves by choice.

Do you guys go to therapy or anything could you have then write something to the school stating that his behaviors are behaviors of a child with his disability or something or maybe print something offline that list of behaviors of a child with his disability and show it to them and say you want it changed

I agree with Teresa12626. If you have a therapist or a doctor who diagnosed him then you have professional backing to get that wording changed.

Don't let the school push that on you. I'm tired of Administrators trying to tell me that the disability does not cause behavior issues when everyone knows it does. Don't let them talk you out of it get it whatever documentation you need

Thank you. I am getting ready to go. Nervous like crazy. I hate that

Does the behavior happen because of lack of impulse control? That’s a no-brainer. However, support the school by acknowledging their difficulties in this situation. Your son still needs to be held accountable for his behavior, and a collaborative approach, especially with a positive rewards system, could be effective.

Btw, what is a PPT?

I survived the meeting. Wow. What a relief. I have to admit that it went very smooth. It was good to hear that my son improved a lot. He didn’t have any office referrals in 3 weeks! He’s calmer, they said.

I was able to add “ no grade lowering for homework turn in late”. I will also have a “ bridge” person that I will be able to communicate with all the time. Right now I am communicating with all teachers and this gets overwhelming. I need somebody for

- my son recently got 3 F, could you please check what’s going on

-there was a homework, but he didn’t bring the worksheets, can I have a copy?

Etc

Also, teachers will check his designated folder for his assignments and homework, that usually gets done, but never gets turned in. Now, they will check that folder.

Overall, nice , positive meeting.

Since it is a teacher appreciation week, I brought a dozen of doughnuts with me , just to set a good , friendly tone. Little tricks always work. ;)
