My suggestion is to first get the test done that checks how her body metabolizes medication and which medications she will metabolize better than others. then if you decide to start medications you will have a good idea which one to start with..... Other than that this is very wearing on parents! Try to stay patient and remember their brains work in all different kinds of directions. Take a deep breath... its gonna be a long ride.... I wish they would have had the genesight test out when we started my son on meds. he has tried EVERY stimulant. The test showed he does NOT metabolize any of them normal at all. We go back to his Dr. tomorrow and I am going to ask her to put him on L-Methylfolate (he doesn't convert folic acid properly-called MTHHF genotype... READ UP ON IT....
What is this test called?
My was called Genesight by assurex.
The only thing is some dr's believe in it while others don't. I went through 6 years of HELL and now I know why. There are 3 columns to the test. Green is what they metabolize the best. Yellow is take with caution (somewhat metabolize) Red is use with EXTRA caution(very hard to metabolize) ALL my sons were in the yellow and red. We still have yet to find a medication that he metabolizes like he should. Also this test shows psychotropic meds, pain meds and antidepressants and how your body breaks them down. Also showed he was heterozygous for the MTHFR gene mutation and he does not break down folic acid very well. We see the dr today and I am going to ask her if we can try L-Methylfolate ( already broke down folic acid). This is a very important mineral in our body.. Google all the info you can before you start meds. I really wished I would have known about this test ahead of time.
Some doctors may not believe in it because it might not always be accurate. A pediatric neurologist I took my grandson to said she used to do those tests until it told her that a patient who was doing really well on a medication was on the wrong medication period after that she stopped doing the test she said
