First Im so glad I found a support group for this. My son is 14 and has ADHD he was diagnosed at the age of 6. Omg when I tell you this has been an emotional rollercoaster. The public schools suck my son is at reading at a 4the grade level his math is 5the grade. When I tell you I'm so frustrated he finally got an IEP FINALLY!! How do you guys deal with this because I always have a mental breakdown. Any feedback will be appreciated

I understand! It’s so difficult to deal with and the schools are overloaded. I’m glad he has an IEP, that should help! Remember to take care of yourself, too!

Ooh honey sound so familiar his teacher doesn't have it, but Lord do they complain. These teachers need to be educated on children like ours. It's so sad because our babies are the ones that suffers 🤦

Oh wow I would get notes too. My question is what is she doing as his teacher to help as well. Honestly some teachers don't want to put in the work it's horrible. I got me a lawyer and won I couldn't take it any more

Good question. Deal with it one day at a time and with identified issues to address. Otherwise, the behaviors and issues can overwhelm us.

I totally understand where you are coming from. My son is 14 as well. He is behind in school. Emotional roller coaster is a very good description. I put him in sylvan learning to catch up and now he has a math tutor and I tutor him in English. Of corse his physical education mark is a 90 so I know he has the potential to learn.

I would escalate at the school above his teacher who appears to be highly uneducated...

Go to the head of school. Calmly remind them that ADHD an official diagnosis and recognized as a learning disability. Public schools in the US are legally responsible under the American’s Diabilty Act to accommodate his learning differences. You want a partnership with the school. Not a teacher who asks what you are doing to help your child ‘focus’. It’s as bad as a teacher asking a parent what you are doing to help your blind child see! Or your wheelchair bound child to walk. Thank would say something along the lines of “legal action is not my prefered rout and I would much prefer a partnership.” Let them know it is not easy, believe me you understand, but he deserves the best education he can get. Do this all very calmly. That will land the message. Help them remember they are legally responsible.

Any decent school will get a group of learning specialists together to come up with a plan to help support him.

Best of luck.
