Help my 13 year old son understand ADHD/Dyslexia

My son is 13, diagonisted with ADHD at 6 and Dyslexia at 10. Reading has always been his biggest challenge. Maybe an even bigger challenge is that he just wants to ignore the reality that he had these conditions. I get that it’s REALLY hard for him. Does anyone have suggestions on how to engage him?

ADHD kids are interest based learners. So I guess the real question is what is he interested in? Maybe there is a way to meet him where he is at in that way. My 9 year old reads comic books 90% of the time she reads, but she is reading, so her reading has improved!

It may not be as interesting to a boy (although I know there are male subscribers), but my daughter loves the YouTube channel “How to ADHD”. It is primarily aimed at teens and adults with ADHD, but it is fun and interesting and has made my daughter able to talk more easily about her condition and to feel good about herself.

Your boy has a big advantage—a parent who cares about him and about what he struggles with. He’s really blessed with that!!
