Advice needed to deal with a difficult ex-spouse in helping our newly diagnosed young son with his ADHD

My son, who is almost 8, was recently diagnosed with ADHD. His dad and I are divorced, and while we both have the disorder as well, his father has been against medicating our son. I already pay for monthly counseling out of pocket for our son, and I can't take him to a child psychiatrist without his dad's agreement, due to joint custody. Our son struggles in school and socially, has few friends, and tells me that everyone hates him in his class and he doesn't fit in. I take him to church and Boy Scouts each week to keep him involved in good programs with other kids, but it kills me to see him still suffering so much and to not be able to get his dad on board to explore more treatments. Is anyone in a similar situation? How do you cope with it?

So when I first heard about essential oils, I honestly thought yeah whatever it’s bull. But I have a 7 year old son diagnosed with ADHD combined type and while he is on medication and we see a counselor regularly; I’ve noticed a difference when we use cedar wood oil, lavender, and Roman chamomile... he has a diffuser in his room and a roll-on perfume mix that I do in the mornings.. if you google and get on Pinterest there are a lot of how tos to start oils and what’s safe for children.. I hope this helps ❤️ I’m here if you need to talk. Don’t hesitate.

Truthfully. I’m new to it. Here’s what I’ve learned so far as it relates to my son. I’ve put a diffuser in his room. Right now it has lavender and vetiver in it with water. It helps him to relax. I have not seen near as much aggression. I also have found a lotion at bath and body works called ‘Sleep’ it is the one that contains lavender and cedar wood. I swear by it. My son is up for hours at bedtime unable to relax even with prescription meds.. I put this lotion on and in 10 minutes he was in a relaxed, deep sleep for the WHOLE night! And I had it on my hands and slept better than I have in years. Amazing! Also, I’ve made some roll-ons for focus and calming.. Everything I’ve learned has come from Pinterest. And no I don’t sell oils..I have no reason to push them other than they’ve made a huge difference for us. The only warnings I’ve learned is you have to be careful what you diffuse/use around animals, and make sure if you are doing roll-ons that you are following the right recipe for kids. There are tons of charts about it on Pinterest. Also there are lists of what oils are good for adhd as well as how to use them. Hope this helps!!
