Hi my names Katie and I was wondering if anyone else has a child with ADHD and an emotional disorder?

My 13 year has ADHD and emotional disorder as well. He has been taking meds for several years. They have been mostly ineffective. My wife, son and I have started in a program called DBT. It is geared as much for the parents as the child. It has been EXTREMELY helpful for me in dealing with his outbursts and has brought peace to the house most of the time. He also goes to a private school for children with Learning Disabilities. The school is great. Last year was his first year there and it was the first time he didn't hate school. Of course it is very expensive. Our public school system didn't want to help us pay for it. We retained an attorney and have received almost 90% of the tuition back from the district. Between these two things our family has almost become the typical "average" family you see on TV. If nothing else see if you can find an organization or psychologist to teach the DBT system to your family. Good luck.
