Hi. I'm new to the group. My son is 7 years old. He was diagnosed with ADHD about 2 years ago. We are dealing with a lot of behaviors at school and home . We just moved to be closer to my parents whose health is declining and it made his behaviors worse. He has impulses really bad. We started therapy and is on medication.

My son is the same age. We are going through the same problem. When Jax’s has a sudden big change it always start his anxiety off which triggers his meltdowns. What medication is he on?

Hello!

How long has it been since you have moved, started meds and therapy?

For my kid, it takes about 2-3 weeks for her to transition *IF* everything else is ok, but if something is really new, then it can be longer. For us, it's just a matter of being consistent and grinning and bearing it. However, you would want to keep track of his behaviors at home and school to see if there are any patterns or triggers. Right now it is probably extra hard to suss out what is causing the behavior - is it just the ADHD, or is it the changes to his environment, or side-effects of the meds or (possibly) a combination of all three?

Good luck. It will probably take a bit of time to figure it out.

Unfortunately, it is only going to get worse. This is a great place to vent and share your feelings. Good luck.

Welcome, your son is really having to deal with a lot of new changes - adjusting to new meds, being at a new school, moving to a new home, having to find new friends, seeing his grandparents with failing health. This is alot to adjust to in a short period of time. I can see why there may be some behavior concerns as he copes with everything new. The therapy and medication is helpful. You are heading in the right direction.

I would recommend you research broad spectrum micronutrients. They were recommended by my son’s psychiatrist and have significantly helped with his behavior. There are two companies, Hardy Nutritionals and True Hope. She did not recommend one brand over the other. I myself know what it is like to have to deal with a child with issues while also managing ailing parents. Sending you hope and best wishes!
