Hi. I wanted to introduce myself. I've got three children: a 12 year old with ADHD/LD, a 10 year old and an almost 8 year old. My 12 year old was diagnosed three years ago after he became violent and I realized that if he continued the way he was going for another 10 years, we'd be in big trouble. He's been on Concerta since then and it, along with educating ourselves, has been a blessing. He's still got some challenging behaviors, which at times feel unfair to his younger sisters and which occasionally get him into trouble at school.
He's currently at a really structured school that he seems to enjoy, but he's hit the "middle school" phase of switching classes and using a locker, which has been difficult for him. Lots of homework gets lost, but we're working on it.
My big anxiety-producer these days is that I signed my son up for a summer camp that supposedly works with ADHD kids to help them learn life skills and he so needs a dose of confidence and to be with a group of people that understand both his limitations and his exceptionalities (is that a word?). BUT, he's never slept away from home before and I think it's going to be harder on me than him. Anyway, I look forward to interacting with everyone here.
