My son had ADHD. We have tried several stimulant medications that left him temperamental and unhappy. Has anyone had a similar experience and what medications worked for your child? His academics have suffered severely because of his ADHD....

Yes, I'm having the same problem with Vyvanse, it makes my 7 year old daughter mean. Also found out she's losing weight and not sleeping as well. So yes, tired, hungry and cranky go together. Do the benefits of being able to concentrate and focus outweigh the negatives? So far, yes, but I'm hoping to get her in with a psychiatrist who can prescribe something without so many ill effects. So far she's been seen by her pediatrician who specializes in ADHD. Right now, my daughter is the one saying, " I must have the medicine" because she knows what a huge difference it makes at school. We tried a weekend medicine-free and she was hyper, inattentive and kind again. Sigh. I'm not really sure what the best answer is here. Good luck!
Thanks for replying. It's a challenging. One that is keeping me on my knees in prayer. The stimulants tended to make my son suicidal, temperamental and it was not worth it. I hope we find something that is t so bad.
I've not tried but I hear that the non-stimulants are better for kids with a tendency towards depression. My daughter has anxiety and we're monitoring it pretty closely to make sure it doesn't get worse. Prayer is definitely a help. My daughter made friends with horses at a Youth Ranch this summer and it was such a positive experience for her. God answered her prayer to make "horse friends" and God answered my prayer to find something to help her get her self-confidence back. God bless you!
