Well, well, well... the app

I did try an earlier, battery eating, version of the Active 10 app (years ago) but you've been nudging me to give it another go...

And I am glad I did because I've had a bit of a revelation... this afternoon I went out (for a run) and decided to run the Active 10 pace checker in my warm up walk and found that a comfortable pace for me *is* enough to count as brisk walking, even though the indicators I've seen previously had suggested it wasn't (and a walking pace that achieves those indicators is - at best - disagreeable for me... and, I now realise, one of my major obstacles with C25K first time round)

😀😀😀

Wow! Do you mean comfortable pace running or walking? Interesting! I also think the pace checker was a great addition to the A10 when it came in. So glad to see it being intentionally used .

Fabulous!

Comfortable pace walking. (A funny thing happened though, probably due to being on the phone to some good friends from just after I started my actual running... I stopped at 30 minutes and walked and then realised (after some time) that I was running again - friend said I sounded more puffed when I was walking after running than whilst running again)

I think coming off the beta blockers (and controlling the SVTs entirely with Valsalva manoeuvres instead) has been helpful for seeing what is going on too.

People do have such variations in natural walking pace. One of my son's OTs told her friend (who was his speech and language therapist) to be aware that teaching him to walk at the same (slower) pace as others had its merits of course but would cause him pain.

So interesting! And I can relate. I often get a back ache whist walking, but not when running. I am still trying to find strategies to get rid of the back ache for good. But so walking feels like more of an effort than (slow) running, actually.
