Hubby’s Summer Walks with the Stride  App

I just wanted to write a quick walking report, not from me but rather from my hubby, who I somehow managed to get hooked on the STRIDE walking app.

My review of this app was back in May when I increased my outdoor activities, and to increase my walking, I looked into some smartphone apps. Link here healthunlocked.com/active10...

It accompanied me on my 2nd Walk-Run Couch25k journey as I returned from having spent some time on the injury couch.  I have to admit, my return to running pushed my walking back into the background. It still is a key part of my runs, of course. I warm up every run by walking. I walk during the weekdays to get to places.  But I don’t manage to dedicate special time to walking now, although I’d like to.

So I am in awe of the walkers that post on these forums. And my time as a more substantial walker will return, but for now, it is what it is.

But back in May, walking was something I was keen to explore, specifically Nordic Walking.  My foray into Nordic Walking ( part 1 : healthunlocked.com/bridgeto...  ; part 2 : healthunlocked.com/active10... and part 3 : healthunlocked.com/active10... ) was inspirational, and my NW poles are now standing ready beside the door for the next opportunity. The time will come, I’m sure.

But hubby is another matter.

He’s actually an Ex-Cross-Country Runner with a calf injury that he and his physios cannot seem to get on top off. It means that every time he starts on a running training plan again, his calf muscles cramp up.

So he took to morning walks, at least 3-4 times a week. He goes far, 5-8km per walk, he’s fast, and during the summer, he even managed to fill our freezer with the foraged bramble goodies.  The stride app, in the beginning, provided a great little competitive moment between me and him, as I walked and ran my usual routes, firming down those hexagons in the app as solid in my walked kingdom.

His conquered hexagons in the app went far and wide, and he went on to be named “king of our town” in the app! 🤣🤣 It, of course, also cost him a set of jeans as he scrambled over fences and posts, to get to the last hexagons: healthunlocked.com/active10... Well!

He has by now conquered all of our cities’ hexagons, except two hexagons sitting within a secured industrial complex. I’ve told him to forget those last two hexagons, but I wouldn’t be surprised if he is still trying to find a way in.

So if you one night are watching the evening news as it reports, “Walking man’s excuse while attempting to break into armed facility: I wanted to reach those last two hexagons on my walking app”, then you’ll know that’s my hubby.

Hooked on walking and a walking app, it seems.

So now, how do I wean him off it again?

  🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Have fun walking, everyone!

Maybe you can join him in the winter on your Nordic poles instead of running. Your hubbies walk sounds more interesting than my walks, saw those apples again that feel off the tree other side of someone’s garden on pavement, might be temped to go get some. I know what u mean about military places, me and Mr D when we used to hire a car abroad in Tenerife gran canarie and Cyprus always seem to end up In military places, at least they laughed knowing we were lost, but not in Cyprus a wee bit more serious. I don’t know how your hubby would explain if caught about looking for hexagons 🤣. At least your hubby walks with you when running , Mr D wouldn’t. 😕. Tell him to keep it up and you as well in your challenges 😃
