Just 2K at a time...

Hiya,

As told in my first post, my big plan of walking every day 3K minimum when signing up for the LOTR challenges, did not work out. After the initial start, my walking slowed down.

I then decided last week to try again and I put as goal 30 minutes of walking at least 5 days a week. 30 minutes is a much more reasonable goal for me to fit in my day.

Thursday I did not walk as I had to go to the car inspection and had a long time waiting. I know I could have walked after dinner, but... On Friday I did a walk of 30 min on my treadmill, putting some OMD on and turned up the volume. Saturday I was at the coast (at our chalet there) and I did 2 walks of 30 min together with my mom. But on Sunday there was no walk. It rained the whole day and once home I felt very faint from hunger and did not trust my body to do a walk.

Today I did again 30 min on the treadmill, this time watching an old music show on my tablet. But I also ordered a portable dvd player, so I can watch series or a movie (in bits and pieces) while walking. This because wifi is too bad to stream anything and I don't find a lot to watch on Youtube. Fingers crossed I can install it on my tripod to have it before me and watch something.

So that is what has happened so far in my (short) walking adventure...

Cheers, Evy

I have read that 150 minutes a week or 30 min exercise a day can benefit cardiovascular disease and diabetes walking so it has benefits. It dos t matter if your outside or on a treadmill your still exercising. 30 minutes is more reasonable to try and fit in in your hectic life and your illness. I was trying to fit in walks everyday but broke chain three times usually just one day missing . I was out yesterday 10 km and spent Saturday gardening and yesterday as well, sacroiliac joint in back and hip hurting so decided to rest this morning, but went out a slow walk with Mr D tonight about 3 km. As long as you enjoy it.

Thanks and yes, indeed it is better to do 30 min walks than nothing at all. I know I SHOULD do more of sports of whatever. But there is a difference between SHOULD and CAN. For the time being I keep to these 30 minute walks and I'll see how it evolves.

Well done! I think you’re doing plenty!

I recently realised that I didn’t like targets, but rather goals… and that the two are different.

With targets you hit and miss them, and there is the danger that you beat yourself up for having missed the target.

With goals, you aim for them. You aspire towards them. And when you’ve tried but failed to reach them, than you know you’ve tried and that alone made you that little bit of a fitter, better person.

So I’ve come to understand that for my motivation and mental state, it’s better to set goals rather than targets.

Not sure that is useful, but I’d definitely celebrate the runs you did, and not regret the runs you didn’t.

I think you’re doing brilliant!

Thanks and yes, every walk I do is a walk more done!

Hello Blackscorpion and CBDB. Great effort. Good idea to fit in what you can manage and it all mounts up to a great benefit. I agree about goals rather than targets. For instance I look at my weekly step total not so much the daily. I hope to get close to 70K per week but don’t worry about days with less than 10K as it all evens out over the week. Best wishes. Wow, 70K steps per week, that's something I can only dream off! Yeah, you hear it, I am really not active 🤪

I bet with all your 30 mins you do get a really high count. 30 mins at a time is beyond me both the effort and finding the time slot. Good luck to both of us. 😃😉👍

Only about 3000 steps for 30 minutes... on days when I go to the office I have more steps from walking around the office and walking to stores during my lunch break. But when working at home, I hardly get 2000 steps in total (without the walks). Lazy bum I am 😜

Well done . My aim is 10 minutes per day according to the Active 10 app & 150active minutes per week .

Those 150 minutes a week equivalent my 30 minutes a day for 5 days a week (can't always walk every every day). So not much difference between us 😉. You're doing good!

Thank you . Some weeks I manage 300 + active minutes (if I remember to take my phone with me 🤣)
