Is this 'normal'

Dani17 profile image

I struggle with emotions, I don't know whether to ignore them or let them out. when I do I always have like days, sometimes weeks, or 'on an off' crying and out bursts of emotion.

Question: is this normal, and why does it happen?

Hi, yes it is normal. Let it out. I have had this more recently since coming off anti depresants. I cried watching ve day anniversary at weekend and I cried in the gym the other morning , I was sweating so much no body saw. Emotion is a good thing. Quite often a sympton of depression but thats ok. It just shows we are sensitive people.

Keep in touch.

Crying is a very normal thing for both male and female.

Some of us men in particular find it hard to show our emotions especially in public.

You take care and enjoy life

Good Morning Lost

We all have emotional days. They also say we should let them out. My emotions were beaten out of my by my family and all I have is a very raw, stressed reaction that need to be let out or I become very distressed, hence my condition Reactive Depression.

If you become over emotional that can just be you getting rid of any feelings you may have to that situation. Personally this can be a good thing as you may not be dwelling on that problem. Some may say you are over emotional. The British Stiff upper lip comes to mind.

Europeans, such as France, they are more emotional. than the British

Hi Lost16

We can all be emotional and I remember adults telling me that its good to let out our feelings whatever they are because keeping stuff locked up can be harmful to us, it can all build up. Ideally we should all have a good friend or family member who we can pour out our feelings. I find doing something in exercise helps. But we can't and don't all want to do this straight away. Remember you are not alone with this, so if it helps to write it down thats good as you have shared this with someone who may be feeling just like you. I hope this helps.

Hi sweet. I am really sorry to hear u r struggling. It's usual in period of depression. There's 3 main types. A mild depression, as when u get upset Ur cat or mother passes away is normal. It is quite common problem menstrual or in early teenage years. However if if it persist or you can't pinpoint the trigger u do need to get it looked at. I understand u self assessed online. That's a guy start in the right direction. Ur gp is Ur 1st point of call. He will give u advise on whom best to help you. Unfortunately bottling up emotions always comes back to bite us back in the rear end! I know this can seem difficult to accept for some of us, but u deserve to be happy and try Ur very best to achieve and maintain it as much as possible. U wouldn't ignore falling over all the time. So don't ignore Ur emotional health. It is even more important than most of Ur body parts as running Ur body greatly depends on it. And the longer u wait, the harder and longer the road to recovery can become. I wish u all the best sweety. Take great care of Yourself.

Its quite normal to have the occasional cry, but not if it keeps on, if your feelings are really getting you down best to see gp for advice. Good Luck. Annette
