I have schizo affective disorder and an 'unspecified' personality disorder and 12 years ago went through a particularly long period of suicidal depression. I was admitted as an inpatient and received ECT - bilateral, 3 times a week for 4 weeks. It sucked everything out of me, life, soul and memory.
I have recently read that the amount, duration and bilateral ECT is above the recommended guidelines and can cause permanent injury.
Still suffering and now also have physical health probs too.

Lucky, you need to speak to a health advocate if this happened to you. I am surprised people were using bilateral ECT 12 years ago, because I am sure it was phased out in the 1980s in favour of unilateral.
You may well be able to get someone to seek answers for you as to why this was done.
Thanks for the advice, I wasn't aware of this. I was seriously ill and agreed with no advocate with me to explain too...they never asked for my husband to come in for the meeting. I would've agreed to them shooting me the way I felt at the time.
