ENT referral

Hi,

After a private hearing test I was told to give results to GP as left ear is noticeably worse than my right. I've had slightly worse hearing in my left ear for years maybe even 7 or 8 but it wasn't bad, just noticeably not as good so never really paid it any attention, I do very occasionally have slight tinnitus in my left ear aswell when in silence but goes away after a short time. Audiologist said GP needs to refer me to ENT to rule out AN, which they now have done.

My question is, does this sound like the potential to be AN? Even though the symptoms are fairly subtle. Has anyone had similar symptoms to be told its not AN and something else?

And also what was the wait time for you from being referred to ENT to actually being seen, I do worry quite easily so am hoping someone can see me soon although my experience with wait times through the NHS haven't been great.

Any other advice is welcome

Thanks

I have left side hearing loss for just over 1 year. Headaches too. Finally got MRI and CT results last week. They were normal. I don’t have AN. Had convinced myself I did. ENT this nasal polyps could be causing my symptoms, he needs to see me again.

Hi. Fingers crossed you will not be joining the AN club, but I have been waiting to see ENT since mid May last year. No sign of any appointment yet unfortunately.

Hi, sounds familiar! I have received my hearing care on the NHS for many years via a well known chain of shops. Their reaction to my sudden and unexplained loss was to offer 'to turn your aids up a bit'. They claimed that they could do any more within the 3 year term of their NHS contract. A (private audiologist) immediately suspected an AN about a year ago and referred me to my GP to get a referral onwards to hospital. I finally got a hospital appointment in October followed fairly quickly by an MRI. I have been told by letter that I have an AN but with no further details. My outpatient appointment to discuss it fully it finally here - tomorrow!!

Unfortunately my AN has turned up in my previously good ear and is total loss in that ear - the hearing in the other ear having decreased gradually over many years is now my only source of hearing. Hospital did give me a much better HA for it.

My symptoms other than hearing loss? Balance problems, head aches, fatigue and problems with eyesight.

Wishing you patience and lots of luck!
