Hair loss after surgery

I have started losing hair. I have about an inch section of complete hair loss.

I am three weeks after surgery and really concerned about this I have always had thick long hair.

I have read a bit online about other brain surgeries and it says that it could be from the Anesthetic as I was under for 10 hours.

Has anyone had anything similar?

Good morning…. I am 6 weeks post surgery and yes I’ve had hair loss too. The consultant said this might happen on the opposite side of the operation site (which was shaved in a big ‘C’ around my ear) because my head would be in a cradle frame to hold it firm. My op was 12 hours so I guess the frame has definitely caused this. I had general hair loss too so I’ve started to take a biotin tablet daily to see if it helps. The hair has now started to grow, I can feel it bristly, and luckily it just covers the bald patches until the wind blows! I figure it’s a small price to pay for having the tumour operated on, it will grow back, try not to worry. Hope your recovery goes well. Best wishes, Brigitte xx

Im glad to hear this isn’t just me, well I’m not glad as we are looking abit sparse for hair.

I’m just very vain, I was looking it up last night and all sorts was coming up. Saying it could be shock from the Trauma or a reaction to the anesthetic.

I actually got my husband to order biotin tablets last night and was looking up special shampoos.

I had the Translabyrinthine approach as well so that makes sense. That side of my head was tender from the cradle frame and I had hard skin/ scab on the area that has now gone bald.

I hope mine grows back like yours, thank you for your reply it really has reassured me.

Thank you Emma xxxxx

It’s natural, as women, to feel insecure about hair loss..it’s our crowning glory! but we have been through a huge & intense operation with a long recovery ahead. The same as you, I had the translabyrinthine approach and had a big scab that fell off and left the bald spot near the top of my head. I’m just trying to eat healthily, walk when I can & take the biotin. It will grow back in good time, try not to worry & focus on getting better. I have spoken to the specialist nurse (I’m under Kings London) several times about various worries & every time she has said not to underestimate the severity of this operation & to give my body plenty of time to recover fully. I’ve found this site really useful as it’s a rare disorder, and it’s very reassuring to compare symptoms. Brigitte xx
