I just found out I have HPV 16/18. I don't understand how this could happen to me and at my age!

I'm at a very high risk for cervical cancer. So what happens next ? what am I supposed to do?

Hi There, HPV can take decades to develop with no symptoms, and then diagnose. Even if someone hasn't been intimate or been with same partner for years, another partner who did have HPV could have passed it on years back. Alternatively, current partners that contract HPV outside their main partner, can pass it on to them. You'll have to visit a Gynecologist to have a biopsy of your internal area, and see where the cells are. This is done by spraying the interior area with a solution, then scraping the interior wall, or aspiration. If the cells are close to the areas where they can trespass outside of that 'safe zone', then the DR will do what's called a Leep Procedure. You can google this to see how they do this. It will sound scary; if you have to have this done and ask the DR to freeze the area first, you won't feel but a couple of pinches, not really painful. You should look into this asap to make sure you are ok. Hope this helps, all the best
