Hi everyone,

So I haven’t had a period for 3 months, had a scan and hormone blood test on Monday- all ok but my prolactin is raised? I’m feeling incredibly anxious as the gynaecologist said something about this hormone being in your brain and something about a tumour - I was so anxious I don’t think I took it all in properly 😢 Of course the word tumour has made me so scared. Next step is to have repeat bloods in a month- if my prolactin is still raised I may need a head scan 😢 Has anyone experience raised prolactin?

I’m 35, not on any medication and obviously not pregnant.

Thank you so much for reading x

Usually benign if there’s something there like a prolactinoma:“A prolactinoma is a type of tumor that develops in the pituitary gland at the base of your brain. Prolactinoma is a noncancerous tumor of the pituitary gland. This tumor causes the pituitary to make too much of a hormone called prolactin.”

I’m thinking but not sure if can be shrunken with meds

“Prolactinomas can usually be treated successfully with medication alone. Medication lowers the prolactin level in the blood substantially, often to normal, and also usually reduces adenoma size.May 10, 2021” from uptodate.com/contents/high-...
