Recurring thrush??

Hi everyone,

I had my first ever yeast infection in October 2018 and it was BAD! I had all the symptoms like the painful burning urination, clumpy white discharge, redness and inflammation around the area and SEVERE itchiness. My doctor told me to buy the canesten pessary and cream which I did and a week later I was fine!

Little did I know though that less than 3 months later in January I would have another yeast infection! It wasn’t as severe because it didn’t have all of the symptoms but I just treated it myself without seeing a gp.

Another month later in late feb/March I started experiencing symptoms AGAIN but not as severe (no redness/inflammation) just a bit itchy. I went to the GP and he said if my symptoms flare up then get it tested. It flared up around April/May as it started burning when I had sex and I went to get a swab done which came back positive for thrush. I treated it again with the canesten pessary and my symptoms seemed to go away.

Just when I thought it was over, I’m now experiencing symptoms AGAIN! The itchiness and a bit of discharge and burning when peeing! I don’t know what to do as it seems to keep coming back!! This is the 4th time now! I’m getting very scared as I have health anxiety and I read that recurrent thrush is a symptom of cancer!!

I have an idea why I keep getting thrush and that may be due to my boyfriend as we tend to have sex A LOT. I mean almost every day and sometimes twice a day. Also the last time I treated my thrush we ended up having sex after 2 days of inserting the pessary... (not the smartest idea as they say to wait at least 7 days) so that might’ve affected it.

I’m not sure what to do now, shall I treat it again or go to the GP?? Any advice or reassurance would be helpful as I’m stressing out how I might have cancer! Thank you Xx

Hiya itchiness is one of my endo symptoms. Prior to getting my endo diagnosis I was like you, constantly going to the doctors, getting creams etc. I even went through a stage of having salt baths every night!! Nothing seemed to help. I’ve just bought an aloe Vera gel called aloe pura that my friend recommended to me.

I can’t comment on the cancer thing but maybe ask for a smear test? Sorry I can’t be more help x

🤔 It’s possible that you’re passing some kind of infection back and forth. You need to knock this on the head, no more self treatment, go back to your GP.

Every time you have thrush your partner should be treated too. If he's not treated, he'll just keep re-infecting you. Never heard of a link to cancer but it would be worth getting your blood sugar checked as there is a link to diabetes.

I believe there is an underlying cause (yeast/candida) which could be corrected. My father has had significant thrush problems with some improvement after reducing the amount of fruit at one sitting (from very high) and reducing dairy significantly. He's not sure which has helped (if any, of course). Better than just applying cream which the docs give - short-term relief again!
