Do fibroids need a biopsy?

Hi,

After several months of constipation, abdominal and back pain, my doc sent me for an ultrasound scan.

At the scan, i was told I had a fibroid and not to worry. It was said in such a throwaway manner that it doesn’t sit right with me.

Ok, if I have fibroids, then fine- but can they really tell it’s not cancer from just a scan? Is that it or should I be offered a biopsy?

🙂Fibroids are non cancerous. An explanation can be found on nhs.uk - search ‘fibroids’ - click on the first link for extensive information.

Yes, they are benign but when I had not one but two attempts to remove mine, they took a biopsy each time. It was fine. You don't always have to have them removed but in some cases they cause severe bleeding and other issues
