Perimenopause

Hi,

I am 42 and think I have started the perimenopause stage over a year ago. I think this because my cycles are a lot shorter these days. I have also been experiencing very painful periods on the first day. This month I have experienced the most painful stomach cramps i have ever experienced. I have also felt quite dizzy and lethargic and then ended up vomiting. Is this down to being in the perimenopause or could it be something else? The pains every month seem to be getting worse. Someone told me you are supposed to get a 40 year old check up, is this correct?

I would make an appointment with your doctor. Even if your doctor tells you that your symptoms are typical for peri menopause there are treatment options for you. You shouldn’t have to suffer.

If the GP decides to run hormone blood tests.... make sure you get them done ( ideally) on day 2 of your bleed but if done between day 2 to day 5 of bleed this will give most accurate results as they declare the normal ranges broken down between the stages of the menstral cycle. Sorry layman’s terms but this was information I managed to uncover, unfortunately, AFTER I had my bloods done! In the meantime keep a diary of all symptoms/ body temperature/ sleep pattern / period / body aches and possibly foods eaten as could help when speaking to GP. Maybe ask for Vit D , B12 , iron and Ferritin levels too incase it’s a type of anemia. Best of luck.

Hey Jobarton! I have experienced shorter cycles, but not the pain. It’s difficult to be certain, as it’s no doubt slightly different for us all. I agree with others. Go and have a chat with your GP and hopefully they can do some tests that will help you to find the best solution. Best wishes for getting back your comfort and general sense of well being! 🥰❤️
