Perimenopause and reactions to mosquito bites

I am currently in perimenopause, and dealing with all the lovely symptoms, including a strange reaction to mosquito bites I have had only the last 6 months- they get huge and itch like crazy, getting even worse the day after, and the strangest part is more keep popping up without me getting bit! We are indoors, plus I have trousers on. And this is the third time this has happened in the last few months, and they never really bit me much before. Also I can’t find anything that works to make the itch go away!

Has anyone else had this experience?

Is this definitely mosquito bites - are the little critters around? Could it be hives. I think hives is a name for skin rash/raised bumps caused by an allergy, or maybe a change in meds?

Tea tree oil can sometimes help, just dab it on. But if there are no mosquitoes around, more investigation may be needed. 🙂

There are mosquitos around. We live in Thailand and each time we come to the beach where there are mosquitos out at sunset or at an outdoor restaurant at dinner I get bit, but it only seems to be one or two bites but in the morning while indoors with no mosquitos I get more huge, very itchy whelps! It’s really bizarre, and only started these last few months after I started getting all the menopause symptoms.

Thanks for responding! They are driving me insane and they itch during the night and my husband is starting to think I am crazy!

I think hives is the same thing as urticaria, and according to a very brief internet check, is a menopause symptom. So hopefully something which there may be some treatment for. 🙂

Very interesting...maybe I am getting somewhere now and I will start looking into this (never heard of it or had hives in my life!). Welcome to menopause right?! Thank you!

I got really badly bitten by mosquitos when I was going through my menopause. I was working in the US at the time. On returning to the UK and gardening in the evening I got bitten again. I had a huge hot lump on my arm and went to the doctors. It seems that my immune system is now over sensitive, so I take anti-histamines. No big deal but if I don't I itch like crazy and the lumps are humungous

Ok that is helpful- the dr mentioned my autoimmune system could be off and wants to include that in my blood tests I think, so I will make sure of that, thanks for your input!
