Has anyone had pelvic floor physical therapy before? What can I expect? I’m beginning treatments for interstitial cystitis and pelvic pain soon and am a little nervous!

How old are you...menopausal? Have you had children, or you hope to have children shortly? Both these questions are relevant to the type of therapy you might receive. Personally, I’d look at the type of pelvic floor exercises new mums follow to strengthen their pelvic floor following child birth. These exercises are just as useful for woman if menopausal age too.

I’m 31, and had two normal vaginal deliveries and not menopausal.

Hi ya, I’m not knowledgeable at all with the type therapy your considering. However if your family is complete, then you should definitely seek the most beneficial pelvic treatment for your problems.

How sad you aren’t feeling at your best. This is the time in your life when the greatest demands of motherhood are upon you. It’s the hardest job in the world. You need to be fit and strong as a young mum, it’s nonstop go, with never a minute to yourself.

If you’re happy to try this line of treatment for your condition then fine, if not and you are aware of another way to help you, then I’d say really exaggerate what’s troubling you. After all, you're not just out to make yourself feel better, your thinking of your whole family, they need you to be well.

So be strong, even become emotional just as you are on your bad days. That’s the problem with doctors, they aren’t in your house when you are at your worse, they don’t see the housework building up and don’t hear your wee ones crying for you, so you really need to “show them” and do it well.

Get better soon. A
