Hello

Don’t know if this is appropriate for this group but don’t know where else to go before going to my GP.

Is there anything that can be done with medication or an operation or have I got to just live with it?

I’m 58yrs old not overweight, physical fit. I workout and go to classes at the gym. Which includes core work and pelvic floor exercises. My problem is getting worse.

Thanks in advance for reply’s. 😊

Hi W3ndy

I also suffered with this, first time i remember it being really bad was at my sisters hen night about 6 years ago, i was in my late 30's and we were in an 80's club, so was totally jumping about the dance floor, on one of the jumps, my bladder just emptied, no warning or anything. I was completely mortified. Thankfully do the 80's outfit, leggings ra ra skirt, etc i got away without anybody noticing. After that it was terrible, i run a lot and would have leaks, and by god if anybody made me laugh, i was in serious trouble. My friend who is about your age has suffered with this for years, and just jokes about it, says shes too embarrassed to see her GP. Well that wouldn't do for me. So i saw my GP, i was referred to local hospital for tests and then had some pelvic floor exercises given to me and a strange electrode devise that sent strange pulses through my pelvic walls. I had to use this for about a month. It made no difference what so ever. So i was referred to another hospital, where after running a few bladder holding tests, it was confirmed i had little or no muscle reaction and would need a small operation, which was like a sling stitched to hold up my bladder.

It took a couple of hours, and honestly it was the best thing i could have done. I can run, laugh and best of all i can bounce on the trampoline (lol) with my daughters, something i haven't been able to do for years.

Would i do it again..............in a heart beat. And if you looking for your life back and to regain your confidence i would say, see your GP. Good luck

Thank you so much for your reply Lucky14. This is exactly what I wanted to hear. I wanted to know that there were things that can be done to help before I go to GP and get told. Sorry it’s your age -something you have to live with. I know pelvic floor exercises haven’t helped me and I even invested in tens machine with a pelvic floor probe device which also hasn’t worked despite using for a couple of month with no improvement. It’s getting ridiculous. If I don’t go to the loo as soon as I get the urge I wet myself. I dribble when I need to go, and whoa be tired if I don’t go immediately😱🤦🏻‍♀️.

Thanks again for your positive reply. It has really encouraged me to see my GP. Thank you.

How long ago did you have your op? Is it a life long solution? Were you offered medication first?

Really pleased it has been successful and given you your confidence and life back. Xx

I cant remember of the top of my head, but think it was about 6 years ago. I wasn't offered medication, and to be honest, i wouldn't have wanted to take any as i take enough already lol. Not sure if it lasts forever. The consultant who i had to see 6 months after my surgery was very nice, and said if i was to experience problems again, it should just be a short procedure to tighten the sling again. I certainly have no problems anymore with the laughing, running etc. But feel i don't get any warning of late when i need to go, and then i could be in trouble. So i'm thinking of making an appointment to discuss with him. But personally changed my life for the better. My friend still too embarrassed to see her GP, even though shes had some unfortunate accidents whilst out walking her dog. So don't get fobbed off with age, or exercises for pelvic floor, advise you have been doing them, and your tens machine with the probe device sounds like what i was given to use in the early stages, which didn't work at all for me. x

Is this what you had? I saw it in today’s news-shocking 😱

I’m going to Drs tomorrow about my problem and was going to ask for surgery but having seen this don’t think I want it and happier to try medication.

Hope you’re doing ok Hun? 🙂

Thanks for reply Nat

Went to Drs yesterday. The first course of action is to do a two day diary. To record and measure what fluids go in and how much comes out. Also keep track of frequency. I have a UTI’ at the moment! So need to wait for that the clear then a dreaded ‘internal!’ another appointment in two after I’ve completed diary. Then proceed from there.

I feel I probably have a sensitive bladder but definitely lack of muscle control.

Hoping to get some sort positive treatment soon.

What medication are you on? Has it completely help with bladder control. Do you think you have a sensitive bladder or muscle weakness or both? Is your medication for a specific issue?

Thanks for your reply.

Wendy
