Heavy, Prolonged and Painful Periods

Hi all

I'm sure you've heard this all before, I'm just looking for some replies to show that I'm not the only one on earth going through what I am!

I've been on my period continuously for about 8 months and the bleeding is heavy with big clots and it is very painful.

My doctor has tried me on various medication such as Tranexamic Acid, Norethisterone, Codeine and Tramadol. These have been ineffective.

I have had a transvaginal and ultrasound scan and an examination with a speculum.

The initial thought was adenomyosis and I am due to have a hysteroscopy under general anaesethetic next week.

If the hysteroscopy comes back all ok, what would the next step be?

Are there any more tests to diagnose adenomyosis and what are they?

If the doctors do not think it is adenomyosis, what happens next?

Would more tests be needed?

What would they be?

What would they be testing for?

Or if they don't know what is wrong and they just need to treat the symptoms, how would they do that?

I know I have asked a lot of questions and appreciate that my doctor may be the only one who can definitively answer these questions but your thoughts are just as important to me.

Sorry for the spelling and grammar and thank you for your help.

That does sound awful but you're not the only one going through that I'm sure there's even a story about a lady in the Bible who went through this! I am perimenopausal at the moment and have had 4 heavy clotty periods in about 6 to 7 weeks and it's extremely draining so I can only imagine how you feel. I've read a good book on hormonal imbalances but I'm not sure how old you are? Has anybody looked into your hormone levels? in the UK we're not very good at that Dr wise.

Not what you're looking for?
