Are there any ex Slimming World members out there?
I have been following Slimming World for around a year and lost 2 stone but I have plateaued recently. I am at the same weight as I was in November. Every week I start off great and I try following the plan and I swear down that I do follow the plan as it is.
I am type 1 diabetic and started on Omnipod 5 three weeks ago and so I have to count carbs and do so by the NutraCheck app. As well as logging carbs, it logs calories as well and I have started to notice certain things.
The "syn free" packet of rice is 500+calories (and I do eat the full packet), add in a 200 calorie chicken breast and veg and I am over 800 calories for one meal. The 2 syn packet of couscous is 600+ calories. The "free" chips I make, with beans, egg, mushrooms and ham is over 700 calories. If it is a calorie controlled diet, then surely I am going over my calories nearly every day?
I have started running and I feel I have been discouraged from doing so, my leader telling me that running "won't make a difference to my weight loss". That is utter utter nonsense isn't it? If I am burning 300-400 calories going for a run, surely it will add to it?
They did a poll in group just last week and she asked for everyone to raise their hand who is happy with their weight loss so far and only around 15% raised their hand and it did get me thinking about whether it is right for me.
I don't want to be critical too much, as I spent two years before this thinking "I'll start Monday", "this little bit won't hurt" etc and put on so much weight and Slimming World saved me from that. I have tried following Nutracheck/Myfitnesspal on my own and got absolutely no where.
Slimming World also taught me how to eat sensibly, and how to eat foods to make you feel full.
And so I think the plan from now is to still go to meetings (I need the accountability of someone else, doing it by myself won't work) but fully calorie count, following the Slimming World mantra. It is interesting that one of the biggest losers in my SW group does follow this, I know he does.
