Hi, been trying to find out how many calories are in a takeaway portion chicken madras. I'm aware that men require around 2500 calories a day and trying to see where a takeaway fit in. Looking at the Internet it tends say their values in kcals......are these literally the calories? Tia

Chicken madras calories
Hi Pcee, I've just typed in "how many calories in a chicken madras takeaway" and this is what came up first....
Energy: 1276 calories
Protein 53.3g
Carbs 162.1g
Fat 41.3g
Does that look similar to what you are looking at?
I've always interpretted Kcal and calories as being the same but i don't know that for a fact. I wonder what google says to that question lol Just had to check and it said that kcal and calories are used interchangeably so yes they are the same xx
Wow!!! That must include the rice cos there is no way the chicken and sauce has 162 carbs!!
Yes kilocalories and calories are the same. You’ll only ever get approximate values for takeaways as different places use different recipes, ingredients, quantities. Have you thought of making a fakeaway madras at home. ( And now I really’fancy a curry!)
Well if you can muster the energy to get your pinny on you could easily cook a big batch, curries freeze really well and even improve with a bit of keeping ( But I must own up and say, I don’t cook at all, my other half does it all ) .
the 2500 kcal for men is super misleading. If you are 1.70m and have a desk job then you will not need 2500 kcal. If you are 1.95 and a lumberjack then you might need more.
For your personal calorie needs, calculate your Basal metabolic rate calculator.net/bmr-calculat... that will tell you how many kcal you (personally) need just being alive, without any activity. You can then work backwards how many kcals you need.

Whatever takeouts you have if you are weight watching then limit them .Not only the cals but I find most now so salty and it can make you sluggish as most are really processed . Would try and make your own plus any sides you buy add up too . They are addictive and convenient- great for the odd treat but unless you really exercise them off they make a lifestyle change and healthy eating agenda disappear
You can't 'exersise off' a bad diet, that's a myth that should have been put to rest decades ago.
You should forget the calories and concentrate on the carbohydrate and seed oil content. The carbohydrates will raise insulin levels and trigger fat storage and the seed oils will cause inflammation and fluid retention.
Can't see that anyone would eat a curry without those carbs like bread and rice . Many takeout curries are full of ghee which really sits around the tum
But the rice and bread are what make you gain weight because the starch is just a long chain of sugar molecules which break down easily in the gut, not the ghee which is one of the heathiest fats you can get and promotes satiety so that you do'nt have te eat as much to satisfy your appetite. p.s. I make my own curries three times a week and don't eat bread or noodles and only a small potrion of brown rice once a week. My bmi is 21
