I'm over 21 stone and a very poor eater, although being that weight you wouldn't think so. I do not eat cheese unless it's on a pizza and I only have them maybe twice a year.Cant stand soup and the only greens I can actually eat are peas beans and cabbage.Very few vegetables I like, potatoes and carrots at a pinch. I like meat and fruit .I love eggs but struggling after that.

Sounds like there are a fair amount of things you do like - meat and eggs for protein, peas, beans and cabbage plus potatoes and carrots.

Would you like to eat more, different foods? Do you cook?

Yes I can cook, it's finding different things to eat, I'm pretty sure I can cook most things. Just need ideas.

Hi, I'll ask again, would you like to eat more, different foods?

brads27 profile image

Yes I would but finding them is difficult.

Could you choose one thing you would like to be able to eat? Give yourself a month to try it, cooking in different ways and eating it with food that you do like. You could share that on the Daily Diary and people would be encouraging

I would like to have cheese but the thought of it makes me ill. I can't think of anything else.

Cheese it is, then. I'll message you

I think you would find a low carb way of eating easiest and can stick to a 'meat and 4 veg' menu (cabbage, peas, beans and carrots)

Have cabbage as a base, instead of rice and pasta, so curry, bolognese, chilli, stew, mince, etc.

Fruitwise, stick to berries which are lowest carb.

Eggs can be eaten in so many different ways - omelette, scrambled, fried, boiled, etc.

Try time restricted eating, so that you only have to think about 2 meals a day.

Also add small amounts of different veggies into your recipes, possibly grated/pureed so that you're not really aware of them, eg swede mashed with carrot, tomato based sauces, bell pepper added to curry/bolognese/chilli.

Look for different ways to cook veg, which may make them more palatable, eg, roasting/frying

There are dozens of recipes in Topics and hundreds online.

I hope this helps :)

I can do time restricted eating easily, at the moment I've gone 20 hours without any solid food just drank tea and coffee,I do have milk in them though.

I don't have rice very often and do not like pasta at all.

That's good, because it fits in with a low carb way of eating.

That's very good, but I thought you wanted ideas for different foods to eat?

brads27 profile image
brads271st 7lbs in reply tomoreless

The problem is it's got to be something I can actually eat. Definitely not cheese or soup of any kind.

Hi Brads, Happy New Year!

In order to plan meals that will help you lose weight, it's important to understand where your calories are currently coming from. You might find that you can simply swap out certain foods for similar alternatives that are lower in calories. By doing this you don't feel like you are punishing yourself and can make small changes over time, meaning you are more likely to stick to it.

What do you eat currently on a day to day basis? You mentioned a few things there but what would you say are the 3-4 things you know are probably not helping you currently?

brads27 profile image

Bread does not help and Christmas didn't help. I don't have rice very often.I like beans of any description, chilli is nice, if I have chips I do them in the airfrier with no oil. If I have veg all the time I'll soon get fed up of it. I lost 3 stone doing the 5-2 diet. So I'll stick with that.

My advice is start where you are. Look at what you are eating now and level up from there.

For many of us who carry weight it is not so much about the actual food though mindful nutrition is a potential goal it's about why we eat and goes deeper than food and movement.

I'm an intuitive eater so I make realistic plans around what I want to eat, listen to mind mind and body and then try to do easy level ups. It may not be one of the fastest methods but it can be one of the more sustainable as you grow through your process and change your relationship with food and underlying beliefs around life and food.

When you don't have a big choice of foods it's difficult what to have, if I liked all food dieting would be so simple, I could do it with my eyes closed, but when restricted to a small choice of foods it's very difficult.I never have breakfast so that helps with time restricted eating.Yesterday I went 20 hours without food.Today so far I've gone 15 hours up to now without food. I do the 5-2 diet actually it's more a way of life than a diet. I did lose over 3 stone doing it. I then had an heart attack not because of the 5-2, it was too many cigarettes,I smoked over 40 a day for over 40 years. That is difficult to do stopping smoking, it takes immense will power but I did do it, so I'm thinking I'll put some of the methods I used to stop smoking into cutting down on food.

I'm similar on the food front. Still lost 70lb by working on why I emotionally ate and amounts that weren't required but ate all the food I liked and love in pizza and bread etc as I chose food freedom. I wish I loved salad too.

Re smoking the two are similar can be related both in terms of why we have the behaviours and the solve.

I suspect that you may be eating tpo much bread and pizza, also possibly fruit. Try a carnivore diet (meat fish, eggs) with veg (esp. dark leafy greens and salads for potassium, with an olive oil vinagrette for the calories and fat which are needed to absorb fat soluble vitamins like vitamin A) and a little low sugar fruit like berries avoiding all grain based foods.

brads27 profile image
brads271st 7lbs in reply toEryl

Definitely not pizza I have at the most 2 pizzas a year.Olive oil vinaigrette are a definite no no,I can cook with olive oil but that's as far as I go. The only thing I put on salad is malt vinegar.I don't have salad cream or mayo.i don't mind Mayo but no one else likes it so we never get any and salad cream is vile.I do like salads but feel very hungry about 30 minutes after having one. The only fish I like is cod and haddock and not too sure about cooking it, on TV it always looks raw like when they cook beef.If it's pink the dog would get it.

I have lost about six stone. I dont eat refined sugar and try to eat four small meals a day of what I most fancy. I have fruit in between.

brads27 profile image
brads271st 7lbs in reply toHectorsmum2

That's a great loss, I never have breakfast, usually still in bed but I don't go to bed until 2am .I need to stop eating after I have had my tea(dinner) depends where your from😂. Done it ok this week just got to carry on doing it. Fruit and nuts are high in calories so have to be careful with them and I really struggle to find things to eat.

I'm really not for sure of the actual health benefits, but I also don't care for many vegetables. Fruit is no problem. I started using green superfood powder. I mix it up in my fruit smoothies and you can't taste it.

They was talking about green powders with a doctor on television today, the doctor said just eat a healthy diet and save your money. I don't know anything about them so can't comment

I personally have a difficult time putting in the recommended amount of daily veggies. I shop around for the most reasonable, but thanks for the heads up.👍

brads27 profile image
brads271st 7lbs in reply toJerry02

So do I,not a fan of veg and although I like most fruit I don't have a lot of that either.

Jerry02 profile image
Jerry022023 December in reply tobrads27

Actually I get my fruit from a smoothie and I either throw in some kale or spinach and you can't taste it.👍

Jerry02 profile image
Jerry022023 December in reply tobrads27

I got to thinking about what you saw about green powders. I looked up some fruit and vegetable smoothie recipes to try and get veggies in through food. Thanks for the idea.☺️

brads27 profile image

I like all fruit apart from grapefruit, and I can't have that anyway because of arthritis. But I only have an orange every day.Lots of calories in fruit.I do like nuts but they are sky high in calories. Never made a smoothie so don't know about them. I have a juicer that makes them, it even grinds coffee bit not used that for a long time.

Nuts are high calorie but them and actually peanut butter have very healthy fats in them. I eat them but no in moderation.

brads27 profile image

Nuts taste great but so many calories in them

AnnieW55 profile image
AnnieW55Visitor

Nuts are good for you, lots of healthy fats (which help to fill you up) in them. Yes lots of calories but it’s the amount eaten that causes problems. I have 10gms of walnuts & 3-6gms of brazils most days and 10gms of almonds most days.

I don’t suppose you like yoghurt but if you try Greek yoghurt (Fage Total or Yeo Valley are my favourites) it is very bland, not sour at all. 100gms with some nuts or seeds or fruit (I use frozen a lot)makes a great meal or dessert. I add other things too like cocoa, kiwi (unpeeled) anything that takes my fancy really.

If you are eating low carb you can increase the good fats as that and protein helps keep you feeling full.

Try looking at the Zoe podcasts, they are on You Tube might give you more ideas/information.

brads27 profile image
brads271st 7lbs in reply toAnnieW55

Thanks I have been having walnuts and strawberries in the very yoghurt you mentioned.Trouble is I like it so much. It's too tempting, I've got 2 in the fridge what I bought from Sainsbury's today. I have the Zoe app if it's the same Zoe.i can eat nuts till they come out of my ears😁.I have Guud yoghurt ice lolly s

AnnieW55 profile image
AnnieW55Visitor in reply tobrads27

Me too, that’s why I measure things out into a nice pot and mix them together. I eat this either as a light meal or as a dessert so my mindset is not to keep eating it. It can happen e.g, I used to be a real chocoholic (used to eat my children’s chocolate and when they ate any it was always some that had been replaced, probably more than once) but now I can leave it for weeks. My favourite now is either Lidl 85% or Lindt 90% cocoa, 1 square at a time, not something I would have eaten in those days.

If I’m eating the nuts separately I measure them out too. Somehow measuring them out stops me overdoing it.

brads27 profile image
brads271st 7lbs in reply toAnnieW55

I love chocolate but one square at a time, no chance I'm one very big bar at a time. So I've stopped buying it. Dairy milk 😋😋😋. I'm the same with yoghurt í have the whole tub.I used to smoke 40/60 per day but stopped 10 years ago. I also used to drink like a fish , stopped that so good is the next thing, obviously I can't stop food.

AnnieW55 profile image

No, you’d just get used to it when you died☺️. Congratulations on quitting the weed and booze with determination like that I’m sure you will succeed with health(y)ier diet.

Yes stopping smoking, they reckon it's 10 times harder than quitting heroin, not that I would ever have that. I did that with the help of a forum.I joined a forum as soon as I started doing a diet, been on a few, the first one stopped but I still go on fatbustingbrits. We are all online friends on there and talk about anything, mostly dogs but do help each other with dieting.
