My son pointed out to me that mayo contains over 700 calories in 100ml which is about 2 tablespoons of the stuff. The good news is that I can give up dieting, fasting, calories counting, weightwatchers and worrying as long as I also give up mayo lol.
Thought I would mention this in a post as I hadnt realised how dangerous the stuff is. Thought others might need to know.

Compare that with the ingredients of the top named brand: Rapeseed oil (78%), free range pasteurised EGG and EGG yolk (8,9%), water, spirit vinegar, sugar, salt, lemon juice concentrate, flavouring, antioxidant (calcium disodium EDTA), paprika extract.
Snap BG, HM mayo takes 5 mins,+we know what it contains . I usually include the egg white too. The only problem is that it's sooo yummy I have to watch portion sizes 🐷lol.
It's very easy. Try it with one egg yolk first, I use a small balloon whisk: and for the olive oil, go for a light one rather than the full EV, which can be too strong
Brilliant! - thank you to Hectorsmum2 for your post raising the issue and to BridgeGirl for this HM suggestion - I always thought it would be difficult for some reason! I guess if you are using raw eggs then those pregnant should avoid it, but both daughters have now had their infants so I'm going to try this at a family birthday party on Saturday - potato salad was already on the menu, now with HM mayo plus chives from the garden!
If you use the light mayo it's not so badlands of course. Less of it. I agree. Salad without mayo is not good. So I put a tablespoon of light mayo on the side and now add a small amount to each fork. I now use less. Sometimes not evan all of it. I used tk over the salad with it. So goodness knows how much I was using then
Ah mayo! We do love it don't we,lol. When I'm having one of my extra careful weeks, I add a little yogurt to my HM mayo, I hope this makes it HM,light yogurt
Mayonasie is unhealthy but it's not about the calories, It's because commercial mayonaise is all made with refined oils. If you make your own mayonaise with cold pressed olive oil you needn't worry, it's actually beneficial, being high in protein, vitamins, amino acids, minerals, antioxidants, healthy fat and polyphenols. Take a look at this video which explains it all: youtu.be/UhPskgH2HQA
One tablespoon is 15 ml or so. One hundred ml would be six tablespoons, not two. Even if you got into calorie counting as a way to lose weight, Mayo would be no worse than any other fat!
Though I agree—the unhealthy part of Mayo is the terrible oil it’s usually made with :0)
Hello there , there are lots of other options for dressings with less calories as mentioned here on the replies. I used to use one of the herb mixtures specially for salad but not the same as mayo. Mayo has to be a treat not an everyday condiment. Some people put it on chips nowadays too. Should have a new motto, Think before you eat . Enjoy your food a bit of what you fancy does you goods.
