Trying to lose weight while Coaliac

I am restricted to what I can eat without having awful gut reactions. Most bought foods I can have are either loaded with salt or sugar. I'm looking for some inspiration.

The answer is to avoid processed foods completely and cook from raw ingredients then you can control what's in your food.

Thanks. I bought a soupmaker and made mushroom and veg soup in just 20 minutes, It was pretty good

I love my soup maker, it gets used weekly. Buuternut squash and sweet potato or leek and sweet potato for me, both with chili, coconut milk and coriander leaves.

There's a great post called Springers Specials which has a new theme every month: you could look at that. Also the Daily Diary where members post their meal plans: everyone is happy to share ideas.

I agree with Eryl: if you buy food in its natural state, you'll know exactly what you're having.

Hi DJMac9,

I am wheat free and dairy free which means I share a lot of the foodstuffs you mention. I focus on having wholegrain rice products which are gluten free such as the rice pasta, spaghetti etc and keep my treats down. I really started to get on board with swapping things I usually ate to things with lower GI when losing weight so sweet potatoes instead of white potatoes etc I ate plain yogurt instead of cream/icecream.

Deliciously Ella has no added sugar and gluten free options such as the double chocolate cups that I find really tasty but expensive so makes it twice the reason to keep my treats down! I do eat oats and find they are filling as a grain.

My other way of losing weight was to up my veg and fruit. drink more soya milk (I did slimming world so, that is one of their healthy options so I had to!) protein, and really look at anything extra that I thought was "ok"

I really thought I would struggle due to my extra dietary needs but, I managed to lose 3 stones, a stone of which was in lockdown so it didn't seem to be an extra issue as I had thought.

Good luck on your weight loss 👍

Thank you Bee-Bop. I shall certainly buy some soya milk

Dear DJMac9

While dieting and living with a disease it is best to eat home prepared meals. If u can. In which u can choose from almost all the gluten free major food groups.

I neither add sugar nor salt in anything because there is salt naturally present in many but sometimes I do add little salt and Stevia to replace sugar which is considered safe by FDA.

It's surprising how much stuff is loaded with sugar, hope you got some good ideas :-)
