I’ve been working out and eating healthy for months now, and yet I haven’t lost any weight. I take medicines for hypothyroidism regularly.

Hi _Samantha_ and welcome to this amazing forum.

I suggest you spend some time clicking about to find your way around. It's easier if you have a lap-top as there are several threads. If you’re using another device I strongly suggest that you use the web page as opposed to the app at least until you know your way around.

Have a good read of the pinned post “Welcome Newbies” and follow every thread.

Here’s the link to the pinned posts,

Here’s the link for the “Tour” of the forum. If you haven’t already taken it.

Here's the link to "Thyroid UK" you may well pick up some tips there, too.

I strongly suggest you read and contribute to the Daily Diary and participate in a Weekly Weigh in.

You will find there's loads of tips about better eating, from other members some of whom have your problem. Sharing your daily menu not only helps you stay committed, it can help other members too.

Good luck I hope to "see " you around.

Hi Samantha, you sound so like me, that I did a double take! Welcome and hope you find this forum useful. I have found that hypothyroidism has made my metabolic rate a lot slower so every pound is harder won than previously. But I also got a huge shock when I did a basic calculation for my basal metabolic rate as the NHS guidelines on calorie intake for men and women can be too generous for many of us. Now that I realise 2000 calories a day would have me putting on weight each week, I am feeling my way towards what my calorie intake should look like. Good luck with your journey!!

It’s easy to over eat even healthily, and most people have no idea of the correct portion size, try reducing your intake by 50% for a couple of weeks and see what the results are

Might be worth checking with a personal trainer on your workout to confirm cardio vs strength and or weight training. You could be building muscle as well as losing weight so they’ll cancel each other out. Usually if you’re doing weight or resistance training, as well as cardio although the hyperthyroidism will also mean double effort for similar returns as others have said in rely. If not already try a calorie tracker such as Nutracheck or the nhs site to confirm portion sizes/calories etc (although the app actually tells you nutrition based on whatever amount you consume).

We only have your assesment of what a healthy diet is therefore it's impossible to tell you what you're doing wrong but one thing that's possible is that your omega 3 to omega 6 balance iw wrong. High omega 6 often comes from over consumption of vegetable oil. Try to avoid cooking with refined veg oil and cooking with cold pressed coconutoil avocado oil or olive oil.Another thing is that if you're working out and doing a lot of resistance excersise you're going to be increasing muscle which is more dense than fat, so you'll get more toned and healthier because more muscle fibre provides more glycogen storage and more capacity for burning blood sugar so therewill be less for the liver to turn into triglycerides.

Ohh… sure!! I use groundnut oil that has not been refined. Thank you!!

I generally do a mix of strength like pushups and sit-ups, etc as well as cardio like walks and jumping jacks, etc. But somehow, my stomach seems to be getting bigger. I can actually hold a lot of my belly fat. On the other hand, nowadays I’m feeling my waist and stomach are getting a bit firm. That’s a good thing isn’t it?

Having an enlarged tummy is often due to inflammation from your diet. Check out anti-inflammatory diets ( a few different ones around) and see whether something on your diet shows up in one or more of the inflammatory foods list.

Groundnut oil is high in omega6.
