NHS PRESCRIPTION CHARGES AGE TO BE EXTENDED from 60 TO 66 Currently in England when you reach 60 years prescription charges are free however this is about to change a consultation is in progress with the NHS to be Decided later in August of this year which is about £8.50 per item the NHS report a financial gain of some £800 million for such services last year so if you are nearly 60 you will not be allowed to claim and will have to wait until you're 66. People are able to provide feed back to them until the end of August... On the official NHS. Gov Web site... Unless we all complain its something lots of people are going to pay for regular prescriptions until they are 66 ...

. They are not reporting this but its happening! Exersise your rights and tell them No!

Thanks for posting this information Hackettsparks.

I would suggest any members who think this may affect them to check the validity on the NHS website or with their GP practice xx

I wondered how long before the age changed for prescriptions, thank you for the details. I do not agree with how free prescriptions work but will go to the government page.

They are bringing it into line with retirement age, that’s all. There will probably be a host of things that will have to shift with the new age of retirement being 66. I am speaking as someone who has had retirement constantly shifted. The government don’t ‘make money’ or ‘gain money’ from prescriptions they are just not spending as much and can use the money else where, a second point is that the amount we actually pay is still minuscule compared to the actual cost of the drugs. Having lived in the USA and France my eyes where opened to how generous our country is to its citizens. America is not a country to be poor and sick. It is a country where if your insurance runs out you die. ($50 to see a doctor, $10 with insurance, 1000 for a sprained wrist, £500 for a course of simple drugs and that was with generous insurance). Dentistry is eye watering. I am now always aware of and grateful to, my fellow citizens for looking after the elderly and sick, such care is not a right but an immense privilege . We should all be aware that tough times are ahead and tough decisions will have to be made, (COVID has not been cheep both in lives and £) the best we can do is try to look after ourselves and each other. We are all doing that on here by loosing weight, trying to be as healthy as possible and being kind to each other. ❤️To quote citizen Smith, Power to the people👍

I signed a petition on change.org it's ridiculous, Keith only just started getting his last month. If you don't know and you're on a lot of meds you can buy a prescription prepayment certificate that saves you a lot of money

I'll go check it out on gov site thanks

Oh and it's £9.60 per item at moment

Indeed you can my friend for 120 quid for a year this year! It's going up by 20% every year 2018 it was 80 quid then it was 100 so that's about 4 times above inflation .. Its yet another bash the older generation the ones who have payed in all there lives In the UK. Recon I'm going to buy myself a dinghy and throw my passport in the English channel....

My retirement has also been moved. And payed a full stamp and a full national insurance contribution so the NHS is payed for. We are customers so it's not charity an it's not value for money and I don't agree it's a privalage Every honest Indigenous person in this country pay NI and One of the highest taxed in the world including vat on Sanitory and disability aids..! We pay a big chunk of money to the government for the NHS hence the name.. National health service... Which if it was Wales or Scotland IS free! For everyone. So how are we immensely greatful again 😂 no no no sorry..

The taxes you and I paid, and I am still paying, (the ever moving pension age) are spent straight away on those who are sick and are on a pension, and I don’t begrudge it, they have done the same for other generations. When we get sick and when we draw our state pension it is not financed by our contributions but by our fellow citizens. Our contributions have been spent on those older than us. So yes I am grateful to my fellow citizens for paying there taxes and financing the system that will take care of us. I have found that being grateful and appreciating others has made me feel more contented and happier . Oh, the sun has just come out. Enjoy life we are all a long time dead, but roll on 66, actually it is 67 for me to have full state pension.🌈

This post will now be closed. The information has been shared so all will be aware that the age level for free prescriptions in England is increasing alongside the increase in state pension age.
