hi everyone i m new on here. Peter , retired , 66 this month . I weigh 18 st 8 and although i m 6ft 5 this still puts me in the obese category. Trouble is people say oh you are tall you can carry it but that is rubbish as most of the fat is round my middle putting pressure on my organs. i consider myself to be well informed on the theory of healthy eating and weight loss but obviously have problems putting it into practice. I realise this is probably the single worst time of the year with Christmas upon us so my first target is to get through to January without gaining. I guess what i m looking for on here is general support , encouragement and advice Look forward to hearing from you

Hi and welcome, Peter
Well done for taking steps to halt any more weight gain, over the festive period. There's support and encouragement on offer, in spadefuls here and I'm sure that we'll be able to help you lose those excess pounds.
I'd like to invite you to join our Newbie Club, which we hope will be a good place for you to connect with members, who are also just starting out. If you just post a few words to introduce yourself and respond to others there, you'll soon break the ice. Here's the link

You'll find all the information you need to navigate the forum in the header, so please take the time to read it carefully.
Wishing you all the best
Welcome Peter and a very sensible attitude about how to deal with the xmas period.
Welcome!
I think you've got a good plan there and some realistic expectations. Good luck!
Hello and welcome, peter1951 .
Like you, I felt I knew enough to be able to lose weight on my own, but it never quite happened. I didn't want to join an "in person" club so I was really happy to come across this forum. I've found it very encouraging and informative. You'll find your way around following moreless's links. Hope you enjoy getting involved and soon see some progress.
I know it's counter-intuitive but pre-Christmas is a good time to start getting a grip so you don't go overboard and add to the excess. Good luck
Welcome to this wonderful forum peter1951 . You seem to have it sussed so wishing you well on your journey.
Hi there Peter and welcome. Your plan to maintain over Christmas is a good one. My advice would be to be active on here and get involved, I was surprised how well it works. Good luck with it. James
