When do you recognize that you lost weight?
Hello, there is no mathematical formula for this. Sometimes you are losing hidden visceral fat, or gaining muscle. Sometimes you are retaining water. I would take some time to measure your waistline as sometimes you are losing inches. The first time I really noticed difference is at change of season, when I got out summer or winter clothes from back of cupboard and noticed that things were looser.
Does this help? The main thing is to persevere- it will work in the end.
Agreed.
I think there are 3 easily accessed ways of monitoring body fat. The scales, the waist circumference and the mirror.
If 2 of them (or all three!) are showing loss, then accept it. If none of them are improving, then you are probably not losing fat.
If only one measure is improving, it's worth investigating what's going on.
Hello and welcome to the Weigh Loss Forum caroshadaway
I felt better within a few days, but I think that was because of my mental state, I felt in control and confident, plus I felt energised and my digestion was good. With regards to feeling slimmer, that takes a while, even though o could see I was losing inches.

It just depends on how much you have to lose annoyingly and how tall you are. Tall people hide weight gain and loss more than more petite people.
My husband has been eating low carb since the start of April. He went to put on some lightweight shorts yesterday and they fell straight down. No question of them staying on him. But I had not noticed he’d lost that much. I know he had in theory but he’s still got a double chin & a tummy. (If I sound like a judgemental cow, I want to have a long old age with him & his family has a history of weight related ill health).
For myself, it’s about being able to wear clothes I have not tried on for five years. ‘Normal’ clothes are also annoyingly too big. I also can see my shoulders again and weirdly my arms look a lot longer! My mother (who has always been very critical of my weight) is now saying things like ‘you won’t look good if you get gaunt’ - which is another clue to me shrinking.
A lot will depend on your clothes - were they so loose and stretchy you can’t see a difference. Or if you get yourself something new, are you in a smaller size?
