What do I do now that I've lost weight?

What happens when you've hit your goal(s) and targets, lost all the weight and your BMI is "normal"?

Add 200 cals to your daily intake until a slight gain shows on the scales. I know that sounds scary, especially after losing but it determines what your daily needs will be and as soon as a gain shows, reduce by 200 cals until your weight is the same daily for at least a week. Then just monitor yourself daily and as soon as a gain shows you can reduce your intake for a couple of days to keep the weight off. I hope that helps you and well done on losing!

Congratulations. You can't let your guard down unfortunately or you will put the weight back on.

this is the bit I always struggle with. Good luck!

I lost 40 pounds fasting two days a week (500 cals) the 5:2 diet. I reached my goal in March so now it's really easy as I just fast one day to maintain. It's the first time I have ever finished a diet and kept the weight off. I was a 16 and I'm now a 10.

I also now run about 5k three times a week as I had so much energy I started C25k in January.

I'm 63.

Hi Gingernut49,

Congratulations on your successful weight loss - can I ask you how long it took for you to lose the 40 pounds using the 5:2 diet?

Best wishes,

Lowcal :-)

After reading Kate Harrison's book in October to around March. I sometimes fitted in an extra fast day in the week and used MyFitnessPal to log my calories every day. It was well worth being strict for the results!

Now I'm far more relaxed and pretty much eat what I like six days a week - but I do weigh myself once a week and know to fast two days if they move in the strong direction!

I've just finished reading Kate Harrison's book last week, and also watched 'The Horizon Programme' last year about Michael Moseley's documentary about the intermittent fasting diet and I have to say I am feeling hopeful that it might be the answer to helping me losing my final 1.5 stone, which has so far been too difficult to shift. It's great to hear how well it's worked for you - thanks for sharing your experience of it.

Lowcal :-)

It really worked for me where others failed, and I love the maintenance aspect which is so different from other diets. 5:2 is a way of life rather than a diet! :-) Good luck - I'll be very happy to help in future if you need any - you can do it!

Ahhhhh, maintaining, it's tricky!

I've been at goal for nearly a year now, I still weigh in every week and once a week I will track my food on the tracker app I was using. I have given myself a 2kilo range that i aim to stay between.

I missed the challenge of losing each week so like gingernut49 (go girl :) ) I took up the C25K and I've now graduated that and doing my first 5k charity run in August.

As Dawnca says, you really can't let your guard down :)
