Hi AArcher001 ,

Has your Endocrinologist talked to you about eating low carb high protein? I'm a type 1 who uses two types of insulin, eat low carb high protein and a gluten free diet and also have a CGM to control the blood sugars 24/7. I also carb. count for each meal and snack. What is your last A1c? When was the appointment? How many times a day do you use your insulin? Are you on a sliding scale? Did you get told about counting carbs.?

HU has a few Diabetes groups, as well. DRWF: healthunlocked.com/drwfdiab... and DI (Diabetes India): healthunlocked.com/diabetes...

For both groups, there are both type 1 and 2 Diabetics. Hope this helps you. :-)

Hello and welcome to the weight loss forum AArcher,

If you are insulin resistant, I would suggest that you have a read of this article,

phcuk.org/wp-content/upload...

You haven't actually told us if you are diabetic, but the article is useful for us all. Following a Low Carb High Fat diet will help you.

Take a look at DietDoctor for further information,

dietdoctor.com/health/insul...

If you haven't already, please take the time to read the Welcome Newbie post, this will help you to navigate the forum, which is best done using the full website and not the app.

Please also take a look at all of the Challenges, Clubs and Events that we have, to help to keep you motivated and engaged with the forum.

The above link will take you to all the information you need. Participation is key to success and I would recommend that you at least join the Daily Diary and a Weigh In day of your choice.

As a peer to peer support group, we all benefit from encouragement and support from one another, so look forward to seeing you join in around the forum :)

Wishing you the best of luck on your weight loss journey :)

The best foods are those that don't raise your insulin level. Diabetes and insulin resistance are disorders of carbohydrate metabolism. That's what you need to tackle, carbohydrates.

Lucigret has given you some helpful links. Take your time reading them and come back with any queries :) And do your own research by searching for "foods that raise insulin levels", or similar

Your question isn't entirely clear.

Do you mean you're insulin-dependent type 1? If so, you need to follow your doctor's instructions precisely. Type 1 diabetics need to inject a certain amount of insulin, and that means balancing the dose with a certain amount of carbs. However, you can still keep carbs low (see below) for improved health. If you've been told to eat a low-fat high-carb diet, this advice is wrong, and I'd suggest you find another health practitioner to advise you.

If you mean you're insulin-resistant type 2 that has progressed to insulin dependence, it's important to understand why this has happened: someone, somewhere has told you to keep eating lots and lots of carbs despite knowing that you are type 2. This, IMO, is professional misconduct at its worst. You were curable, and now you're not.

On the other hand your strategy in this scenario is about the same as for type 1 diabetics. Drop your carbs slowly in consultation with your doctor, who will reduce your insulin dose to match. Replace the carb-calories with fat-calories. If you are lucky, you may find that your have enough remaining pancreatic function to stop the insulin entirely. Again, if your doctor tells you not to do this, find a doctor who knows what he's talking about.
